I called At&t to report it - but because I called them, it voided any chance to do a trace which is *57 for those of you with at&t telephone service.

If it isn't calls about our telephone service, it's the copier (which we don't have here) or the robocalls.

It's a shame people stoop to such levels just to make a point. Or that companies would employ such individuals.

“Now your getting your services changed bitch”

I wouldn’t worry about it. If she can’t even distinguish between her nouns and pronouns, then I doubt she is smart enough to change your service.

When I’m at work, I can always tell when the phone rings whether or not it’s from the ‘outside’. I only answer internal calls. Calls from the outside, I just let go to voicemail. Problem solved. If it’s someone I want to talk to, I call them back.

They used to be able to do that by just calling your long distant carrier, pretending to be you and telling themm to cancel you...

Then they would pick you up...

That happened to mre a few years ago...

I had no warning though...

It was a mess trying to straighten it out...

But I dont think its as easy for them now...

Just call your carrier and tell them what happened and say you do NOT want to change ...

and that whomever calls is not you...

This has to be ID theft etc...

LOL at her calling you back and calling you a B. 0 voters crack me up.

Too bad you couldn’t find out who it was.

When I get sales calls, I always tell them the person they are looking for (me) is dead. The silence on the other line is golden.

On the rare occasions this happens to me, I always ask them their names, and then point out I am on the no-call list. That usually shuts them down fairly fast. The last time it happened, my car insurance company, which I have used for more than 20 years, called asking for my bidness!

Use the following script to answer such calls.

“Excuse me (sir/mame) can I have your company’s name again?”

{write it down on a sheet of paper}

“And can I have your name?”

{also write it down, then read this script without stopping for any reason.}

“Allow me to inform you that in accordance with Federal, State and local laws, I am officially notifying you that I wish this number be removed from your calling list and that I no longer be contacted with this offer or any other offer. A record of this official notification has been made and should further attempts by your company be made to contact this phone number, it will also be recorded and forwarded to the appropriate authorities for possible prosecution. Thank you”

[hang up right away]

You will be amazed at how quickly this will shut down these calls. Getting the number on the do not call list also helps.

Do companies who use such tactics really think I am going to purchase anything from them? I don’t think so.

i would just play like i couldn’t hear and would politely ask them to speak up.

i had one guy yelling over the phone. it was hilarious, because you just know he’s in an office somewhere yelling. the guys in the cubes around me were just dying (they could hear him yelling)

I have a friend and whenever he receives a telemarketer call, he listens to the call while the ‘echo of his bowel movement on the porcelain throne’ creates enough noise that the telemarketer will hang up on him in disgust.

I simply don’t bother answering the phone if I do not recognize the name or number calling. Anyone who I do not know who needs me to call back can always leave me a voicemail.

There’s no excusing the telemarketers actions but I would ask why didn’t you take the call since you were at work. If they make a pitch, you can always direct them to someone at work who normally handles solicitors, or you can answer them yourself. That’s how business gets done.

always get the name and number of the person you are talking with before you start the conversation, then they can’t pull that crap cause they are not anonymous, I say something like this “i have been having trouble with my phone what is your name and number in case we get disconnected”

"Now your getting your services changed bitch!" and hung up

Perhaps you should lend your FReeper moniker to her.

That person would be committing a Federal crime if she switched your phone service provider without your written authorization.

There is a device you can buy that plays a tone when you, your answer machine, or fax picks up the phone that will negate about 90% of the telescum callers, faxers and their computers.

You would be surprised how many legitimate calls these pest are blocking from your business.

Do not just hang up. Instead, calmly and politely tell them to add your number(s) to their Do Not Call list. If they persist calling you after that let them talk enough to figure out who they are and tell them are going to file a complaint with the FTC and you are keeping a record of their calls to present to the court if they don't stop calling.

Some of these folks will say you're rude for wanting to simply regain control of the phone line you pay for. Pay them no mind, it is they who are being rude, calling not for your services or products, but to hawk their own.

With some patience, and some electronics you can regain your phone line and your sanity.
