They used to be able to do that by just calling your long distant carrier, pretending to be you and telling themm to cancel you...

Then they would pick you up...

That happened to mre a few years ago...

I had no warning though...

It was a mess trying to straighten it out...

But I dont think its as easy for them now...

Just call your carrier and tell them what happened and say you do NOT want to change ...

and that whomever calls is not you...

This has to be ID theft etc...

I have an idea for combating ID theft: let people kill those who steal their identity and be only charged with “attempted suicide”.

Well I did call at&t and the advice given was to check my next bill for any changes. You’d think with the technology available these days they could have done something.

Then they would pick you up...

It's called slamming (Sprint was notorious for doing this) and it happened to me a few years ago. I immediately called my phone company (AT&T) and they put a "lock" on my service. Which means that only I (through the use of a password) can request a change in services.
That stopped the slamming ASAP.
