Just got a call (here at work) from a telemarketer with a private number concerning "our local and long distance telephone provider" - I hung up as I always do. The woman called back 3 minutes later and said the following: "Now your getting your services changed bitch!" and hung up.
i would just play like i couldn’t hear and would politely ask them to speak up.
i had one guy yelling over the phone. it was hilarious, because you just know he’s in an office somewhere yelling. the guys in the cubes around me were just dying (they could hear him yelling)
And yet Proverbs 22:1 says “A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favor rather than silver and gold.”
If then someone has the right to defend himself, his family & friends, and his possessions how much more should he fight to keep his name good?
>A. Mans chief end is to glorify God, and to enjoy him for ever.
And how is Micah 6:8 NOT the practical application thereof?
Now thats funny.
"Oh, I'm sorry...he was killed in an accident a few weeks ago." They NEVER know what to say...
In September, I got a letter from someplace like U. S. Telecom asking for several months payment for long distance......I learned something from that - always kill off both if you end service.
(I called and explained and faxed a copy of the death certificate, so it all got credited off....)
Oh - you want to hear about technology? I had Comcast telephone service 3 years ago (not anymore). On a Sunday afternoon after a huge snow storm Saturday night, a guy comes to my front door and tells me he is from Comcast and had just “fixed” my next-door neighbor’s telephone and was curious to know whether my phone service was down. The whole time he’s talking to me, he is starring at my Doberman who was standing on his back legs, leaning against the screen door and barking like crazy. I said my service was fine and shut the door.
I called Comcast and asked if they could verify that there was q service person in my area (on a Sunday). They took my phone number and said they would check and get back to me immediately. That was 3 years ago and I’m still waiting for that return phone call.
In the meantime, this guy was NOT a Comcast and was panning the neighborhoo. Turns out he told some 78 year old lady about 3 blocks from me that he was from the gas company and she unfortunately let him in “to check her furnace” and he robbed her. Was on the news the following nite so I contacted the police and gave a report. Never heard whether he got caught or not.
I have a friend and whenever he receives a telemarketer call, he listens to the call while the ‘echo of his bowel movement on the porcelain throne’ creates enough noise that the telemarketer will hang up on him in disgust.
have an idea for combating ID theft: let people kill those who steal their identity and be only charged with attempted suicide.
Sounds like a plan to me - I like it!
Then they would pick you up...
It's called slamming (Sprint was notorious for doing this) and it happened to me a few years ago. I immediately called my phone company (AT&T) and they put a "lock" on my service. Which means that only I (through the use of a password) can request a change in services.
That stopped the slamming ASAP.
Did she say anthing about sleeping with Tiger Woods?
I simply don’t bother answering the phone if I do not recognize the name or number calling. Anyone who I do not know who needs me to call back can always leave me a voicemail.

I have another idea; you know when you’re crossing the street in a crosswalk and some jerk zooms past you, within kicking distance, and the driver is talking on a cell phone? I’d make it legal for people to shoot people who are driving and talking/texting on their cell phone (w/o a hands-free set, of course)... after all it would be self defense in a case of vehicular manslaughter/homicide, right?
Thanks for your kind words.
When they take people that have been dead since the Civil War off the voters register list, then I would be concerned that a lazy telemarketer would report me to the "big three"
Great credit rating.
Read awhile back that banks were looking to lower credit lines on customers that don't use or pay off credit cards monthly like myself. Giving people like ourselves lower credit ratings. Was a little concerned but hasn't happened yet.
Punish those that pay their credit cards off and reward those that are upside down.
There’s no excusing the telemarketers actions but I would ask why didn’t you take the call since you were at work. If they make a pitch, you can always direct them to someone at work who normally handles solicitors, or you can answer them yourself. That’s how business gets done.
always get the name and number of the person you are talking with before you start the conversation, then they can’t pull that crap cause they are not anonymous, I say something like this “i have been having trouble with my phone what is your name and number in case we get disconnected”
Perhaps you should lend your FReeper moniker to her.
The policy here is not to deal with telemarketers or cold call walk ins - as my boss says, it wastes time and hampers productivity. If my boss wants something, he goes and gets it. And...... there is no one else to send the calls to - this is a small business - “one woman” office - with my boss and estimators in and out (mostly out on job sites) all day long.
after all it would be self defense in a case of vehicular manslaughter/homicide, right?
Wow! If you were running for office I would vote for you;)
That’s a great idea. You could pop most of them as they were running the yellow caution light with phone in ear.
Texting while driving is, VERY arguably, more dangerous than driving drunk.

I usually just ask them to hold on a sec. then I put the phone down and go about my business.
