In Texas this week former Colts NFL coach Tony Dungy talked about faith and Michael Vick's return to the NFL.
Dungy who visited Vick while he was in prison on the dog fighting conviction asked Vick:
"I asked Michael, 'Where was the Lord in all of this?' because I wanted to know about his personal faith in Jesus."
One of my county’s sources of pride.
what was the deal with Dungy recently scolding Vick for drinking in public? Just wondering.
Ugh. No. It’s not even about the dogs. It’s about the Vicks. They are t-r-a-s-h-y. Also t-r-o-u-b-l-e. (Sorry to VT fans.)
I think Tony D has done a beautiful paint job on a sinking ship.
Dungy? Anybody who can get the Buccaneers fit to play football is worthy of a nod.
A person like Vicks is ‘damaged goods’.
A person who gets off on torturing, maiming and killing defenseless animals is not a person who get’s ‘cured’ this is a sick perversion that is a core part of who they are. This person reveled in his sadism, he had no shame, no regret and no remorse. This was not some hidden embarassment that he kept from view, this was a ‘showplace’ and a place of personal pride for this animal. He’s only regret is that he got caught.
Perhaps this team needs to recruit some rapists, child molesters and other degenerates - as long as they can run, kick and catch a football - because that tells me that the only thing this coach cares about is money.
What ever happened to ‘integrity’ and ‘being proud of your team’. If I were on the team, I would be looking to leave; you see, I am careful with whom I associate myself with. The people I associate with define ‘who I am’ and I have too much pride to associate myself with a degenerate sadist.
In some way, shape or form, we are all 'damaged goods'; some of us more than others.
I've always been a dog lover, and have never been a Vick or Eagles fan, but the guy served the sentence that our government imposed on him. I hope his contrition is sincere and would like to think he uses his celebrity (or infamy, if you will) to talk to youth and his peers about the perils and idiocy of the gangsta' thug lifestyle. Will he? I have no way of knowing. I do know however, that without the forgiveness of our fellow man for past transgressions, we'd all be pariahs.
Vick did his time, yada yada. Good, during that time he couldn’t kill anymore dogs. That doesn’t mean I have to forgive him and I’m sure the dogs don’t feel any more kindly toward him just because he did some very short time. He’s evil. He’s a disgusting monster. If this is what football fans hold up as their hero, I want no more of the game. The game holds up thugs, meth heads, rapists, etc. as heroes. No thanks.
While I agree with the forgiveness concept, I do not subscribe to the ‘forget’ part.
He has served his time, however having seen what this man chose to do with his resources; I am of the opinion that he should not have those resources again.
He has his freedom, he has his life.
If he were a child molester, he would be barred from being around children. If he were a MD who molested his patients, he would be barred from paracticing medicine. If he were a cop caught in a corruption bust; he would be barred from working in law enforcement. If he were a lawyer caught in graft, he’s lose his license to practice law.
Vicks made more money than most of these professions pay - I resent him being allowed to return to a profession that enables him to resume the lifestyle that glorifies the mutilation, torture and painful death of innocent creatures, be they dogs, chickens, cattle or sheep.
Find him a broom, and let him earn a living like any other pervert who has served his time. There are too many other worthy athletes that deserve the opportuntity that was afforded Vicks.
I think the headline needs a comma between “God” and “dog.”
Dungy... said Vick has the possibility to becoming a Christian role model.
But Vick faces plenty of scrutiny, such as a recent report of him having a drink of vodka and pineapple juice at a Philadelphia airport restaurant.
“You can’t do that,” Dungy was quoted by Sports Illustrated as telling Vick publicly after the incident.
“I think Michael will be a testimony to young people and have some good things to say them,” Dungy told Baptist Press.
I understand your reasoning behind a police officer or doctor not being returned to their professions; however, police are entrusted as public servants, and physicians and other practitioners of the healing arts are sanctioned and licensed by public boards...not so NFL players, and if a business owner wishes to risk returning Vick to employment, I'd argue that's their perogative.
Suppose hypothetically, Vick were forced into a janitorial position...and then through hard work and diligence, eventually became the CEO of a sanitation company with a salary on par with what he makes in the NFL...would you still begrudge him his salary? If so, you should ask yourself why...
Again, I don't want to sound like a Vick defender...and if you look back at my posts when the dogfighting story broke, I doubt there were many more harsh in their condemnation than I. Truth be told, I think he should probably still be locked up, but that's not the case, and he served a sentence imposed by our system of jurisprudence. For better or worse, he's served his time and found an employer willing to hire him. He has an opportunity for personal redemption and it's up to him, not you or I, to make or break it.
Let’s at least give him a second chance, he has served more time and lost more than a lot of murderers.
I am big time animal lover, really big and I am for giving him a second chance.
Why do you think they call it the National Felons League?
There are too many other worthy athletes that deserve the opportuntity that was afforded Vicks.

How can anyone cheer for this jerk?
Good people who have a deep faith like Dungy are easy to con
They so want to belief the best in people and have them accept Jesus that when people say they do they are more than willing to believe them
he has a right to work, but NOWHERE is it a law he gets to play football ever again.
just exactly what, does it actually take to get kicked out the nfl these days?
crawling over their dying mother to rape their prepubescent sister??
WHAT???
Thanks.
