I'm not taking a position one way or the other, I have been watching the "Birther" controversy with interest.
In answering my question, please go further than the obvious, in other words what would be the outfall and how would you handle the eventual constitutional crisis? Would Biden become prez? If he is no longer viable, would it then fall to Pelosi?
I'm asking the birther supporters to think long range about this.
I live in the country up on top of a hill. My neighbors, relatives and I find rioting to be rude and we have many guns.
If they show up, chances are they won’t leave standing up.
It goes to jurisdiction. He was born on a US occupied military base and hence US soil. Both parents were US citizens. McLame is a natural born US citizen.
What I find interesting is that most of the people saying “follow the constitution” don’t seem to have any idea what the constitution says.
From Article II of the U.S. Constitution.
In Case of the Removal of the President from Office, or of his Death, Resignation, or Inability to discharge the Powers and Duties of the said Office, the same shall devolve on the Vice President.
there is no remedy in the Constitution
Wrong thread, fool.
I guess my point was that some people seem to want to “strategize” over the situation - still a hypothetical at this point, to determine what the outcome would be, before going forward and “calling a foul” on the natural born citizen issue. I think that's a mistake. I think either the laws apply, or they don't. Opening the door to “gaming” them - which some seem to want to do - is a recipe for anarchy.
I am 99.9% sure that we will never see the day that he is booted from office. And we will never know the whole truth.
This is the second dumbest post on this thread.
To me, having a marketing background, the BIRTHERS have a million dollar brand/word that was handed to them on a silver platter. A Madison Ave marketing firm would spent a hundred million dollars of your money getting YOUR catch phrase on the lips of so many Americans.
Most people know it, they know what it refers to, it is one word, only two syllables, fits on the headline of every newspaper or periodical.
And it didn't cost you dime.
If I were an ardent Birther I would be screaming it from the mountaintops, driving it into the psyche of every American, every voter. I would get down on my knees and thank my maker that such a gift was sent my way.
Instead, you reject it and attack anyone, and I mean ANYONE, who has the gall to use it.
And as I said, you could do a whole lot worse...like “tea-bagger”.
So funny.
Article II, Section 1, Clauses 5-6
No person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty-five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States.
(In Case of the Removal of the President from Office, or of his Death, Resignation, or Inability to discharge the Powers and Duties of the said Office, the same shall devolve on the Vice President, and the Congress may by Law provide for the Case of Removal, Death, Resignation or Inability, both of the President and Vice President, declaring what Officer shall then act as President, and such Officer shall act accordingly, until the Disability be removed, or a President shall be elected.) (This clause in parentheses has been modified by the 20th and 25th Amendments.)
There are no mulligans here. Obama won the election.
Hear, hear.
We should get together and form “The Birth Society.”
It would be a victory for the constitution. But I think you guys are wrong. Obama won the election and I am satisfied that he is an American citizen.
How so?
True. “Birther” is simple, to the point and catchy. Since sheeple can’t wrap their minds around “natural born” they certainly couldn’t grasp “constitutionalist” either.
You replied: "No. The terrible day was the day a person who had not been properly and sufficiently vetted was elected president. The correction would be terrible, but it would be a great day for the Constitution."
That is actually what I mean to convey in my post.
Name calling is the hallmark of anti-birthers, evolutionists and Democrats. You also may be happier as an Obama-bot.
