Did you hear about the guy that lives on nothing? No seriously, he lives on zero dollars a day. Meet Daniel Suelo, who lives in a cave outside Moab, Utah. Suelo has no mortgage, no car payment, no debt of any kind. He also has no home, no car, no television, and absolutely no “creature comforts.” But he does have a lot of creatures, as in the mice and bugs that scurry about the cave floor he’s called home for the last three years.
To us, Suelo probably sounds a little extreme. Actually, he probably sounds very extreme. After all, I suspect most of you reading this are doing so under the protection of some sort of man-made shelter, and with some amount of money on your person, and probably a few needs for money, too. And who doesn’t need money unless they have completely unplugged from the grid? Still, it’s an amusing story about a guy who rejects all forms of consumerism as we know it.

They smelled wonderful, too, like springtime. And sooo crisp.
Elderly eggplant get bitter.. It's one of the reason's that folks think they don't like it.
Young and tender is the best..
With older eggplants they recommend salting and weighting in a colander for the bitter juices to drip out. Young fruits do not have the problem.
Eggplants are wonderfully versatile.. You can add them directly to spaghetti sauce if you like a meaty sauce.
You can split them and use olive oil and herbs and grill them face down..
You can thin slice them and used them instead of noodles in lasagna.

Spaetzle (Spätzle) Recipe
1 teaspoon salt
2 eggs
3/4 cup milk
Stir together the flour and salt. Combine eggs and milk; stir into the flour mixture. Pour the batter into the Spätzle Hex and place it on the lip of a large saucepan or pot (with a diameter of at least 20 cm or 8 in) of boiling, salted water. Turn the crank with one hand, keeping the Spätzle Hex gently in place with the other.
Take care to let the extruded pieces of dough (the Spätzle) fall into the slightly bubbling water and let them cook for approximately 2-3 minutes. Generally, Spätzle swimming on the surface are sufficiently cooked and may be gathered with a large slotted spoon, drained and placed into a serving dish. Stir in some melted butter or margarine to keep the Spätzle from sticking together and garnish with some bread crumbs. Makes about 4 cups of Spätzle, which is sufficient as a side dish for 2-3 people.
Serve with nearly any meat dish. Spätzle is great with gravy, sauces or just plain.
It makes great noodles for side dishes...But in a pinch you can make them directly into broth as a substitute for egg noodles.
I use my clothes line most of the year.
This is counter intuitive but I have found on a hot dry day hang out the lightest weight stuff first.
Usually by the time permanent press is dry...They can come down and towels or jeans can go out and have the rest of the day.
If you do the heaviest first...you may only be able to get one line done.
My Mom was the queen of the clothes line..She had a dryer and only used it on rare occasions.
She used it in any dry weather.. Yes you can freeze dry laundry.
She did laundry for 2 adults and 10 kids.

Years ago, I read about copper wire being wrapped around tree branches in India, about 800 years ago, it was to heal ailing trees.......and they said it worked.
Rodale also did research on electro magnetic fields and I still have a few cans in the ground part ways, that I planted seedlings in [no top or bottom,], the cans were to attract the electro magnetic fields in the air.
And at the very least, will offer cut worm protection.

I always enjoyed hanging clothes, a good time to think.
NO, I am not a perfectionist, like some that I know, I pay attention to dress types, to cut down on ironing and much gets one clothes pin.
LOL, the very first time that Mary came to visit me, I had used the used wringer washer and done a huge wash, got it all hung out, on a rope that Bill had strung up, until he could build a clothes line.
We lived in a tiny trailer and I went in to fix dinner.
Mary stayed out in the patio.
When I came out for a break, she said “My Dear, I hope you don’t mind, but I rehung some of your clothes, I couldn’t bear to see them hanging as you had them!!!”
She had a bright idea, for she had proper clothes lines and a well, [we were still hauling water], that in the future, I would do my laundry at her house...
Mary always did the hanging of my clothes, while I did the other parts of using the wringer washer. She insisted.
And we did for years, till I had a well and an automatic washer.
