Intact ancient tomb uncovered in Bethlehem

Workers renovating a house in the traditional town of Jesus' birth accidentally discovered an untouched ancient tomb containing clay pots, plates, beads and the bones of two humans, a Palestinian antiquities official said Tuesday.

The “Palestinian Antiquities” official promptly declared the remains to be muslim and no evidence that Jews ever lived there.

Actually authorities cited possible evidence that the bones were of Jews murdered by Palestinians. This statement brought an outcry from Palestinaian officials who said it was impossible as there were no Palestinaians in the area until the rest of the Arab world kicked them out of their areas.

2200 to 1900 BC (last part of the Early Bronze Age) is pretty early. The first ancient document which mentions Israel by name is the Merneptah stele from shortly before 1200 BC—this is at least 900 years before the time of King David, and probably well before the time of Abraham.
