VENEZUELA is to start selling in May a mobile phone it is billing as one of the world's cheapest: a $US14 ($21.57) handset that includes an mp3 player, radio and camera. President Hugo Chavez unveiled the phone - named "El Vergatario" - today, saying it would be produced by a joint Venezuelan-Chinese firm and marketed across Latin America and the Caribbean. The firm, Vetelca, is 85 per cent controlled by Mr Chavez's government, with the remainder owned by ZTE of China. Vetelca plans to make four million of the units per year in association with another Chinese company, Huawei.

Hugito’s own Volksempfänger.
LOL
My Spanish is not very good, but somebody help me out here. Does El Vergatario mean what I think it means? I only know enough to start a fight, and I think that might be one of the words that would do it.
Yes, it does. Rush talked about this today.
LoL! “Stick this in your ear”
LOL! Yes, that's one of the words. Maybe it's Hugo's cute little way of saying eff you to the world, the eeevvvil capitalists, and, of course, his fellow Venezuelans.
As Rush pointed out today, it's a dictator's dream machine: knock out the competition by selling an ultra-cheap phone, have everybody on that network, and you have a lovely stream of conversations you can listen in on any time you feel like it. Without even the pretense of a legal order, the state can also examine the numbers people call and their patterns of calling and traveling. Pretty neat, huh?
That’s what I thought. Nice move Hugo.
When your country has a little dictator, you have to find some way to compensate.
Hmmm...the psychological implications of Hugo’s choice of a name for his - er, phone - would probably keep Freud busy for awhile!
proper name for the phone considering he is a um”dick-tator”
Im sure he’s laughing every time you put the d*ck up to your ear....
boy he sure is..cocky....
ok the jokes can go on and on
The only downsides of the phone is that it never turns off, monitors what you are saying on or off the phone, and when not in use broadcasts Chavez’s multiple-hour long speeches.
Regards,
GtG
PS At least you know who's listening in!
Es chiquitiiiiiiiiiiito!
