Check “black.”
It may keep them out of the camps.
Is one category “Native American”? I saw a post from a FReeper who said we should all choose this if we’re asked. We were born here and are Americans, so that makes it native American by any logical reading of the word definitions. Let the bureaucrats deal with the demographics.
I don’t know what the law is but I would write NOYB ,sign it and return it back.
I would suggest filling either “NASCAR”, “IRL”, or “Formula 1”...
“have I ever gone across as state line or county line or look for work as a fisherman, farmer or in dairy”
Never heard tell of those.
Don’t know their legality, either, as they don’t pertain to a ‘protected’ class such as race.
Post the exact questions. Let’s see what we can come up with.
Weren't you paying attention all year?
Just mark ...
PRESENT
(They may become president some day)
I’d write in “HUMAN” and be done with it.
Schools send out these forms because they receive extra funding based on how many minority students they have, whether student’s parents are fishermen, and any number of other silly things. Schools are always very eager to get these filled out and returned quickly because they want the extra funding. I’ve never seen them go so far as to punish students over it though.
What race?
Try HUMAN.
They used to do this to my kids and I ALWAYS did this
I’d go to the school administration and ask them to cite the legal requirement for you to answer such questions, and also their legal justification to place your child in detention for not returning the form.
If they can’t produce it, I would make it clear that any repercussions in how they treat your child will be challanged. You don’t have to say “law suit”....just leave it at “challanged”. There are organizations that will sue on your behalf if it comes to that.
If we don’t start ‘questioning authority’, they will just continue to grab more without batting an eyelash.
The last time I saw one of those I did not fill it out but wrote on the form: “Why are you folks so obsessed with race?”
Have you ever gone across state line or county line or look for work as a fisherman, farmer or in dairy? Yes, but it didn't work out, Cows suck at bass fishing and I couldn't get them to fit in the tractors to farm. Maybe next time I'll try to do each one separately instead of all three at once.
Your son was tasked with bringing the form to you, and having it signed and returning it to the teacher. He is not responsible for what YOU wrote, he is only responsible for the transfer of the media. I see no reason to punish him for this. You may want to indicate that your son prompty turned the form to you, you filled it out, and he bears no responsibility for the contents therein.
So, answer the questions any way that makes you happy. Or, simply sign this and write that you are not legally required to identify, therefore you refuse to self-identify. Sign and date it, and have your son turn it in. you may want to indicate that should your refusal to self-identify be used to punish or intimidate your son, reprecussions will be swift and harsh. Leave it at that, simply state that this matter is not legally required, and that you reserve the right to refuse to cooperate.
Teachers are ill-equipped to handle people who are not sheep - so expect some feedback from a person who has been deligated authority over children.
I always check “other” and then write in “human”.
But I think that now I plan to be bolder and start putting “black” or “native american”.
Here in California I would say, “Show me the code.” In other words, show me the part of the California education code that gives them the right to ask these sorts of questions.
If they have “Other” with a blank after it, I like to check that and write “American.”
Tell them to be surprised. Tell them to pi$$ up a rope.
