I received a form today from the school board of St Johns county FL asking me many questions regarding my kids. One of the questions which I am wondering about is when they ask what the race of my kids are. Do I have to answer this by law or can I leave it blank?
To me I see no bearing what the color of my kids are and anyway arn't we supposed to be color blind like MLK wanted.
There are other questions which struck me weird , questions like have I ever gone across as state line or county line or look for work as a fisherman, farmer or in dairy. What his nickname is and what language is their primary and secondary.
Now my oldest was told who is in 5th grade that he has to bring it back to morrow and if he doesn't he receives detention and will do for every day the form is not returned.
This just strikes me as a little draconian that my kids get punished because they never brought the form back that next day and the question about race I thought was not important.
Appreciate any answers on this please
I always answer “Celtic”.
Hey...you got something against the Kentucky Derby or The Belmont?
Hadn’t thought of that.
Shocking, but, yes, there are poor Jewish people.
Typically, we share some of our hoards of silver to keep them from embarrasing us, but you can’t help everyone.
here is the exact question
ethnicity check
Hispanic/Latino
non Hispanic/Latino
native Hawaiian or other pacific islander
Asian
American indian.alaska/native
white
black/African American
for multiracial please check all that apply
I’m thinking of doing the last one as my father was form southern Italy, my mother from England and I came American two years ago legally I might add.
My youngest looks more like southern Italian and my other two look more like , well what they call just typical whitey.
A letter will be going with them as well saying that no way should my children have detention because I have no handed in all the info you want.
What is your child’s race? The 100 Meter Dash
LOL.
Nothing against those, you understand, I just wouldn’t want the school officials to think we were horsing around with them.
There’s no “other” with a blank?
If not, I would check them all, as we all descend from Adam and Eve, and are thus of all races at once.
Have you ever gone across state line or county line or look for work as a fisherman, farmer or in dairy? Yes, but it didn't work out, Cows suck at bass fishing and I couldn't get them to fit in the tractors to farm. Maybe next time I'll try to do each one separately instead of all three at once.
was thinking of doing that, the superintendent has been sending letters home for the last few months wanting parents to get in touch with their local reps for more money.
course he has been harping on about wanting taxes raised etc
so when he had a parents meeting I was listening to this and heard him say about how tax should be raised even though in this county/state we have just voted to lower property taxes
Anyway I got to ask a question and said this
excuse you keep saying that we are heavily underfunded but there is not much money elsewhere anyway and plus we do not want our taxes raised..
course I hear sighs from the crowd etc
I ignored them and preceded to say that the teachers union spent over a hundred million $’s getting their people elected so could you ask them for some money for our schools?
I mean after all they want the best for the kids right
ARF
His jaw dropped and then I went on about how this school is actually doing well, it has nice computers etc and why are us the tax payer paying for your cell phone and bills
after the meeting I got a load of parents coming up to me praising me for that info as they has only heard this superintendents side of things
no there is no option for other otherwise I would have done that but I see no reason for them wanting color as MLK said we should be a color blind country
funny how these liberals forget that speech
Your son was tasked with bringing the form to you, and having it signed and returning it to the teacher. He is not responsible for what YOU wrote, he is only responsible for the transfer of the media. I see no reason to punish him for this. You may want to indicate that your son prompty turned the form to you, you filled it out, and he bears no responsibility for the contents therein.
So, answer the questions any way that makes you happy. Or, simply sign this and write that you are not legally required to identify, therefore you refuse to self-identify. Sign and date it, and have your son turn it in. you may want to indicate that should your refusal to self-identify be used to punish or intimidate your son, reprecussions will be swift and harsh. Leave it at that, simply state that this matter is not legally required, and that you reserve the right to refuse to cooperate.
Teachers are ill-equipped to handle people who are not sheep - so expect some feedback from a person who has been deligated authority over children.
I always check “other” and then write in “human”.
But I think that now I plan to be bolder and start putting “black” or “native american”.
Here in California I would say, “Show me the code.” In other words, show me the part of the California education code that gives them the right to ask these sorts of questions.
Then just put “I refuse to answer racist questions” and cross out the question.
:^)
If they have “Other” with a blank after it, I like to check that and write “American.”
I plan on writing a letter that my oldest will not be punished and if they feel that they will give him detention then I want to be notified first and before it happens so I can come down to the school
It seems the law then from these answers is that it is not required by law to answer this and therefore I will not check the question
I thank all for the answers including the ones which made me laugh on this Monday dinner time
cheers freepers
LOL
I plan on not answering the question and if I do get a call I will be asking them why the color is important and(play the liberal handbook) I find it racist and insulting that you want to know the color of my skin as I do not see it important.
We all our humans bla bla.
