Tomorrow I'm going shopping for a new printer for our home. Here is what I would like:
Definitely LaserJet not Inkjet Preferably with network and/or WIFI Preferably with scanner
I don't care about fax capability I don't care about duplex capability I don't care about copier capability
I would like color but I'm trying to stay under $200.
I want it to last for a long time; be very reliable, and not drain my wallet by having to feed it cartridges all of the time.
I'm sort of tempted to go with a better quality monochrome laser printer and buy a cheap inkjet for the occasional color print.
ANY SUGGESTIONS?
Make and model numbers please!...THANKS.
I use the older model Samsung CLP-300N Color Laser Printer. It can be had for under $100. For both models you can get complete Toner kits (three color and black) for under $50.
I have an HP color laserjet (model CP1215) and I like it a lot, but it may not be the best fit for your needs since it’s a printer only. I seriously think you’re going to have trouble finding an all-in-one or a multi-purpose printer of decent quality for your price range. But I wish you the best of luck.
And something to remember: A laser printer will cost you more up front, but you’ll save a lot on replacement toner cartridges as compared to ink jet printers and their replacement cartridges. After about a year or so of average use it will have paid you back in savings.
Oh, buy a separate scanner...
Thanks for the reply.
How long have you been using your Samsung and how heavily do you use it?
Avoid HP like the plague. I had a problem that was so bad I had to edit my computer’s registery...and even that didn’t work! Online for hours with some very helpful people in India, but couldn’t get it to print. I’m very happy with an Canon 3 in 1.
Monocrome. Regular price is $299, but has two $50 rebates.
Free shipping. You may be able to save another $50 by trading in your old printer (didn't check the details). That would be a heck of a deal.
Running an HP OfficeJet 7410 All-in-One over 2.5 years no problems.
I 100% agree. I have BOTH an HP laptop and a printer, and they are probably the worst devices, hands down.
Avoid the Canon Pixmia line of printers, Canon used to be a wonderful brand, but the newer, all in ones are light on quality and they have drop dead dates on the ink cartridges.
As in, you cannot have them refiled, the printer will reject them.
Look at the Canon MX850 (or a current version). This was a Consumer Reports Best Buy and after my experience during 3 months of usage I know why. It’s a multifunction and yes it’s an inkjet but a damn fine jet. A great included software package. Definitely in your price range. Bluetooth and NIC card standard. Seems to be pretty ink efficient. It is however BIG, think personal copier circa 2003.

YEAH! LOL! And, I want a pony.
About a year and a half. It replaced a Lexmark (actually a Sparc Station 1200 DPI network Laser Printer monochrome and multiple inkjets that kept breaking down on me or running out of color toner at the wrong moment. ) Moderate usage... the color toners are separate cartridges and you do not have to replace the drums when you replace the toner. Ease of replacement is wonderful.
2600n is what I have, great color network printer, and comes with full cartridges which has lasted over two years for me. Had it repaired under warranty which took a day with no hassles. My usual favorite is Brother, but only for monochrome.
Is the 2600n an HP or Epson or...?

Brother® HL-4040CDN Color Laser Printer is on sale at Office Depot for $250. A color laser and B/W rated at 21ppm, I’ve had one for a year. Here’s a link to a review of its cousin, the 4040CN: http://www.pcworld.com/reviews/product/30162/review/hl4040cn.html
