I see that Virginia Senator James Webb is in the news with an announcement about preserving "Virginias abundant natural, historical, and cultural resources." That's great.
In his editorial, Webb stated:
"Virginia is fortunate to have such an abundant supply of pristine lands steeped in history. Extending the Civil War Battlefields Preservation program will enable children to experience the same untouched landscapes of their ancestors and visit the places where so many sacrifices were made, by soldiers and civilians, alike."
I'm grateful that Senator Webb recognizes this emotional connection Virginians have to their ancestors and the land. (Too bad others don't.) Webb is one of the few in national office who understands the issues surrounding WBTS heritage commemoration:
"Even the venerable Robert E. Lee has taken some vicious hits, as dishonest or misinformed advocates among political interest groups and in academia attempt to twist yesterdays America into a fantasy that might better serve the political issues of today. The greatest disservice on this count has been the attempt by these revisionist politicians and academics to defame the entire Confederate Army . . ."

You’ve been on FR all this time and presumably were here in 2006 and you didn’t happen to notice us debunking that farce of a man ? He was no more a Conservative than the False Messiah is. Why in the hell would you have voted for him over George Allen ?
You mean he didn't blow it for you when he endorsed Obama?
And you have the nerve to have pictures of Reagan and Palin in your profile?
Well, for one thing, he was Reagan's Secretary of the Navy and a solid Marine in Vietnam while George Allen was just another draft-dodging fortunate son (of former Washington Redskin's head coach). I mostly go for deeds over actions when voting for pols.
Oh, please, spare me the drama. He came across as a conservative Democrat, a Silver Star-winning Vietnam veteran who was Reagan's SECNAV when he ran for office. Yes, his endorsement of Barry-0 disturbed me deeply but it was deflected somewhat by his having a son actually fighting in Iraq--something you cannot say about most Dims let alone chickenhawk neocons. And, BTW, you also see the picture of John McCain posted along witn Reagan and Palin!
Webb’s deeds have diminished his service.
Just because someone served does not give them a free pass to be an idiot.
Good grief, having a son serving in the military gets your vote? I'm surprised you didn't vote for Biden considering he has a son serving in Iraq as well.
I heard Osama bin Laden has several sons fighting in Afghanistan, maybe you can vote for him next election.
Didn’t Cindy Sheehan’s son die fighting in Iraq?
He was Navy Secretary until he quit ahead of being fired. As for being a “solid Marine”, I’d like to know where it says in the Marine Corps manual that it’s A-OK to go driving around in a car pointing guns at civilians because they don’t happen to be the same shade as you (Watts). I must’ve missed that. Or his other “honorable” actions like running anti-Semitic campaigns. Pedophilic writings ? Yeah. All that great stuff BEFORE he reached the Senate. Of course, Benedict Arnold was a pretty stellar an honorable military officer, too... until he wasn’t. Webb is despicable and a disgrace to the uniform. George Allen was more of a man than Webb will ever be. Oh, and I hope you appreciate Webb’s vote for Porkulus, too. That just happened to be the key vote that kept that abomination from being halted. Thanks a lot.
What the hell were were you thinking man? Did you check any sources besides his campaign site?
A freeper falls for “conservative democrat” bs. Congrats, Harry Reid and Chuck Shoe-mer are laughing at you and a million other foolhearty conservatives who gave them and Pelosi their huge majorites thanks to a bunch of “conservative” (really union socialist) democrats getting elected.
This fellow considers FDR and Pooman Truman to be “neutral” and Newt Gingrich and pro-lifer Susan B. Anthony “villains”.
Sorry, but I have to disagree...in the first place, no one who has served and been honorably discharged disgraces an American uniform IMO. Secondly, he was a Silver Star winner (hardly despicable). And, if you'd closely scrutinize the history of George "Macaca" Allen (hiding Jewish heritage, penchant for nooses and rebel flags, etc.) you'd might be a bit more careful about tossing around those antisemitic and racism charges.
You bet your Democrat-voting ass we disagree. And I don’t throw around allegations lightly. Webb is a racist, an anti-Semite, a liar, and a psychotic (oh, and yeah, he’s a damnable class-baiting Socialist, too, nevermind his lovely pedophilic scribblings, the low-rent Nabokov he thinks he is). He’s a disgrace to the uniform and to our country. I invite you to go do some research on the man you voted for, it’s out there. But like I said, I hope you enjoy your nice big slice of Porkulus and Benedict Arnold Senator, bud, because you voted for it. Have a nice day.
Wow! What a rant! You sound as if your hatred of anyone of different political leanings has gotten the better of common sense. I could agree with you about his disappointing vote on stimulus and abandonment of a "maverick" posture on his membership to the Democrat Party that he promised, but not his service. Suggestion: Before you call a Marine who has worn his uniform proudly and demonstrated fidelity and courage to his country in actual combat you might try to walk a mile or two in his moccasins...get off your computer, see a recruiter.
First off, Hoss, Webb has rightly earned the same moniker of Murtha: EX-Marine. Both as courageous and honorable as Benedict Arnold, and you KNOWINGLY voted for that and don’t give a flying f**k (oh, but you’re more than willing to bash George Allen, for whom that fraud Webb ain’t fit to shine his shoes). So please, don’t expect any kudos or respect from me. Tell me, why are you on a Conservative website serving as an apologist for that psychotic, deceitful, Socialist PIG ? You work for him ?
Well, I've been here since '98 (and if you'd bother to read my profile you'd understand why)...But, at the risk or redundancy, I'd point out to you that philosophically I'm more in a center/right libertarian persuasion than that of a far-right Rushbot butt-kissing neocon (defined as those who profess love for country and flag and the "troops" who defend it yet have never bothered to put on the uniform and have actually expressed hope for our military's defeat when commanded by Democrats--i.e. Bosnia during Clinton). Accordingly, those Democrats and "RINO" Republicans (such as John McCain and Lindsay Graham) who HAVE actually worn a uniform have my deepest respect--this is not to say that I don't always find accord with their voting decisions. Now, you mentioned Benedict Arnold and tied him to Webb and I believe that is a stretch. Had you tied him to John Kerry--who did indeed betray his uniform by his demonstrated treason before the Winter Soldier conference of 1971 I would certainly agree with you--but Webb, to my knowledge, has never done anything remotely akin to Kerry's conduct.
Well, so sorry to let you down, but I am one of those neo-cons (which, btw, is also used by paleos and their left-wing allies, as an anti-Semitic slur). I don’t kiss Rush’s ass, because I haven’t regularly listened to him in well over a decade. I have had generations of members of my family to put on the uniform, and what it means to me is that those individuals should be a cut above the average American. That being a HIGHER level of character. As for Webb, as for Kerry, as for Rangel (yeah, he served), as for Murtha, these people are s-c-u-m. They have zero character, and all are a disgrace to those that HAVE honorably served.
For someone who has been here since ‘98, where were you throughout 2006 when Webb was thoroughly fisked on this website ? The media was more than happy to look the other way at this scumbag since they needed him to knock off Allen. If he were a Republican, he’d have been disemboweled for his conduct.
As for your FReeper page, given that you have the name of one of America’s greatest patriots as a villain (I’ll let you figure out who), you and I have profoundly different views of right and wrong.
“Wow! What a rant! You sound as if your hatred of anyone of different political leanings has gotten the better of common sense”
Webb voters usually confine themselves to DU or Kos.
