Origin Of Life On Earth: Simple Fusion To Jump-start Evolution
Science Daily ^ | Dec. 23, 2008

With the aid of a straightforward experiment, researchers have provided some clues to one of biology's most complex questions: how ancient organic molecules came together to form the basis of life.

RNA, the single-stranded precursor to DNA, normally expands one nucleic base at a time, growing sequentially like a linked chain. The problem is that in the primordial world RNA molecules didn't have enzymes to catalyze this reaction, and while RNA growth can proceed naturally, the rate would be so slow the RNA could never get more than a few pieces long (for as nucleic bases attach to one end, they can

“funny though, how they don’t reject when “evil science” keeps them alive, or helps them in other ways.”

I love hard science but have a general contempt for the many of the soft sciences. Evolutionary conjecture is definitely soft.

They found that under favorable conditions (acidic environment and temperature lower than 70 degrees Celsius), pieces ranging from 10-24 in length could naturally fuse into larger fragments, generally within 14 hours.

Such a ridiculous over-simplification. I'm amazed Science Digest spent 7 paragraphs on it ... I'll wait patiently for future findings, but I'm not going to hold my breath.

I doubt it.

were you a janiter in a science lab?

BTW, guess you won’t be needing any of the scientific advances if you get sick. HA.

I'm not a bible thumper nor a scientist.....but I have yet to see science create life. I know, "just give us more public finds".

I am unaware of any drive for public funding for proving evidence of chemical origins of life. Can you cite anY

Uh, huh..the pick and chose science.

Next time you need the “hard” medical science to help you when you get sick, be sure to tell them you don’t want any help if it invovled any of that ‘soft” gene therapy science.

No, I was a scientist and I could spell janitor too. It made grants easier to read when the big words were spelled correctly.

If you don’t believe that evolution is fact, then you are an idiot for not believing what science has proven to be true. Please disregard the fact that this article does point out that science has NOT proven evolution to be fact. You must believe in evolution and in man made global warming despite the fact that neither can be proven.

I am sure you made your point. I am sorry that I don't get it. :0)

I have apparently wandered on to the wrong thread. I will say I don't know many RNA researchers that pay for their own labs.....

Funny how religious you science types get when things get tough.

And all those elements with atomic numbers higher than Fe were formed by spontaneous RNA linkages.

“YOU science types” ...you are not even logical ...I am both religious and believe in evolution.

Guess I am not the RIGHT Christian brand according to you, cause you can’t believe religion and science can co-exist...except when you want help!

Pick and chose which science they want...Cafeteria christians.

sorry I got hooked into the stupid posts that just can not argue or even discuss science without bringing their own, very limited and personal religion into a science discussion.

I would love to debate you but I have been forbidden to speak of religion. Please start your own thread.

Please, this is a science caucus. No religion allowed.

Oh please. Evolution and their believers have continously attacked Christianity. No one and certainly not you can keep people from expressing their points of view and defending their beliefs. Evolution is religion not science so what you have started here is a religious thread. Thanks!
