Finding a cure for cystic fibrosis has been deemed politically incorrect, on the grounds that this awful disease tends to effect those who deserve to suffer — the source of all evil, male Caucasians:
OTTAWA - The Carleton University Students' Association has voted to drop a cystic fibrosis charity as the beneficiary of its annual Shinearama fundraiser, supporting a motion that argued the disease is not "inclusive" enough.
Cystic fibrosis "has been recently revealed to only affect white people, and primarily men" said the motion read Monday night to student councillors, who voted almost unanimously in favour of it.
Here I was thinking racism was a purely imaginary problem, like global warming. But among progressives, it is not only real but vicious.

Jay, some people have way too much time on their hands. Thanks for posting it because I missed it the first time.
I am so sorry to hear that. May I please kick the butts of these idiots.

Carleton student union head now wants to reverse decision to kill fundraising event
Carleton Universitys student union will be asked to reverse a controversial decision to scrap its annual Shinerama fundraiser.
The union had voted 22-2 in favour of dropping the popular Cystic Fibrosis fundraiser because the disease has been recently revealed to only affect white people, and primarily men, according to the motion brought forward by student representative Donnie Northrup.
The motion suggests all orientees and volunteers should feel like their fundraising efforts will serve the their diverse communities.
Cathleen Morrison, CEO of the Canadian CF Foundation, told reporters on Tuesday the decision was based on false information. She said CF affects men and women equally, and while more common among Caucasians, it afflicts all races.
Brittany Smyth, president of the Carleton University Students Association, defended CUSA’s intentions, saying members simply wanted to explore other charities to donate to after actively supporting CF for years.
I both respect and admire the students’ commitment to the cause of raising funds for cystic fibrosis,” said Smyth in a statement. “I believe this issue has been blown out of proportion but the motion was never meant to imply that raising funds for Cystic Fibrosis research was not a worthwhile cause.
Smyth apologized for the negative media attention the story garnered, and said the responsible thing to do is reverse the decision.
Students had planned to protest the motion in a rally on campus tomorrow (Thursday).
Carleton University president Roseann OReilly Runte issued a statement on Wednesday to express her personal regret over the original decision, and criticized language contained within the motion which was not appropriate
and which has raised considerable concern.
Runte said Carleton students have donated nearly $1 million to CCFF through the Shinerama program.
It is, however, the students right to donate their time and funds to the charity of their choice, said Runte in a statement.
Several media outlets said the CUSA decision was racially-motivated, while one student union member called the decision political correctness gone horribly wrong.
Smyth told reporters the unions intentions were simply to spread the wealth to other deserving charities, and said she was shocked at the national response the story garnered.
I know that Carleton students are fine young scholars who wish to be responsible and considerate, said Runte. I am sure that they did not intend to offend by the preamble to their motion, but I am also sure that they now understand the effects of that language... I am convinced that our students will do the right thing and take the appropriate course of action.

This is the first time I’ve heard that CF is predominant in males? Why would that be the case? I know girls have CF too.
I have donated to the CF Foundation for about 30 years now, ever since I found out one of my Dad’s cousins had 3 of her 4 sons afflicted with this disease. She did not happen to have any daughters. The odds of her having a CF child was one in four since she and her husband were both healthy, and presumably each carried the CF gene. It would not have mattered what gender the children were. Unfortunately for this family, three had CF.
CF is predominant in the northern European population. According to these idiots who are now using PC to assign funds to disease, we should also not bother with sickle cell anemia as it is only in Africans. Or how about Tay-Sachs disease which is in the Jewish population?
This is one way to stop the funding of all sorts of diseases. If you are in a population that is out of favor, forget it. Isn’t this also called geneocide???
Uggh, this misses the point. Should I not donate to sickle cell charities because it afflicts mostly blacks? Maybe I should avoid Tay Sachs charities because I'd just be helping the Joooz. These people are sick, sick, sick.
I know.
This was brought up as part of the reason why this vote was so disgusting, but just a part.
The Brittany Smyth person tried to paint over the whole affair.
A future Canadian politician, no doubt.
:-(
To really, really be a spectacular A$$ho|e you need to go to a top rate University.
What is in the water at these places?
“
My foster-daughter was 19 when she died of CF. These people are idiots.
“
And dangerous folks that will KILL people by refusing aid for possible
therapies and/or cures.
I guess if there’s not “diversity” in the disease’s victims...
it’s not politically correct to attempt to treat/cure it.

Noted Alumni and Faculty include (among others):
Dan Ackroyd
Peter Jennings (IIRC, Jennins didn’t graduate high school; must have
been given some sort of adjunct faculty member position)
It’s the education system...anyone who cares about their children needs to take them out of public school, and home school now!
I just turned down a charitable request from Starbucks on a AIDS drive with this excuse .. ‘it’s not inclusive enough’. Thanks Carleton!! I’ve been wanting an excuse for some of these ‘causes’ ...
They reversed themselves ....

Even though they did reverse themselves, I think we all should still tell them what their racist first vote meant to us ... and that we are all reconsidering any financial support to things like HIV, SicleCell, etc. thanks to their leadership in telling us that it is ‘alright’ to NOT support diseases that are not ‘inclusive enough’.
Here’s their website ... go at it !!!!

I am elated that you have come to your senses and reversed yourself in support of a very debilitating disease, Cystic Fibrosis. I guess you did this after you realized that it affected a broader culture of people and gender than you first realized. It seems that your initial thought was that if it only affected white males, that it was not deserving of any support. Now that you know that “Caucasian’ has a broader definition (good that college education is paying off), you are not going to deny the support and funding on fighting this terrible disease.
I am elated.
At the same time, the next time that someone ask me for help or donation on something that is not ‘inclusive enough’, such as HIV, or Sickle-cell Anemia, etc. I can simply quote CUSA rationale. So Carleton University will have a ‘precedent’ in their name, and perhaps even a new wikipedia definition under ‘inclusive thresholding’.
I already turned down someone today on HIV and told them that Carleton University of Ottawa said that it's OK. You should be proud!!!

Carleton U. — now forever known as the “University of Morons”
Of course, they have many close contenders for that crown, but not so many where the student govt. could vote 22-2 in favor of such a nutty motion.
Now forever known?
LOL, it’s been known around Ottawa for years.
I have to give the students credit though.
They started a petition today to impeach Brittany Smyth, the head of the student council, and on a Friday afternoon, have over 500 of the 1400 signatures needed to do it.
Ms. Smyth, is being voted off the island.
:-)
Great work!
Thanks!
