Avoid using a lot of credit and credit lines. That’s what I’m dealing with now.

Even if you have savings, you ‘will’ underestimate your expenses needed to start any business. Do your best to model these ahead of time. And if needed, put off starting until you think you’ve got the money in the bank.

‘Starting a business for Dummies Book?’

You don’t need a book. You need to work through what’s called a ‘business plan’.

Look online for a typical business plan document. Microsoft has a business plan template that’s extensive and will help you think through your ideas. You have to spend a lot of time upfront in business modeling and planning. Otherwise, you’ll end up in debt quickly. Don’t underestimate; overestimate your expenses and underestimate your projected income. Find out where your breakeven points are.

If there’s a conservative out there with web development and coding skills, I have an idea.

There are a whole lot of small business owners, and hiring managers in bigger businesses, who understand what is going on with the economy right now, what the likely fallout from the Obama Adminstration’s misguided actions is likely to be, and who is at fault.

I believe that they would like a way to screen prospective employees to make sure that they are not giving a job to someone who is voting to confiscate their hard-earned wealth. Personally, if I do any hiring, I will be scanning Facebook and MySpace prior to offering any interviews, and no Democrats/Obama supporters will make the cut. If almost every major university can screen out conservatives, then I can damned well screen out liberals.

I think a jobs website for conservatives might be a good niche opportunity. FReepmail me if you have the coding skills; I can do the marketing and BusDev stuff.

Yes, I’ve been looking for years. I’m fluently bilingual (Spanish-English) and able to learn very quickly. I frequently go the extra mile without expecting extra pay. If you can help me get out of the public schools to work for an empolyer who actually appreciates my skills, you would be my hero. Private mail if you would like a resume and are serious about needing a dependable employee.

Apply for an internship

HL: Apply for an internship

If you’re interested in applying for a White House internship, the application process is now open.

Take a look at the instructions for how to apply for a White House internship, download the application, and learn more about the White House departments you could work in.

Applications are due March 22, 2009. A couple of important things to keep in mind:

In addition to normal office duties, interns will supplement their learning experience by attending a weekly lecture series hosted by senior White House staff, help at White House social events, and volunteer in community service projects.

White House Internships are unpaid positions and participants are responsible for arranging their own transportation and housing for the duration of the program.
