Antievolutionists asked to review draft standards in Texas
The National Center for Science Education ^ | October 16, 2008

Posted on 10/17/2008 7:59:18 AM PDT by Soliton

Three antievolutionists have been appointed to a six-member committee to review the draft set of Texas state science standards, and defenders of the integrity of science education in the Lone Star state are livid. "The committee was chosen by 12 of the 15 members of the board of education, with each panel member receiving the support of two board members," as the Dallas Morning News (October 16, 2008) explains. Six members of the board "aligned with social conservative groups" chose Stephen C. Meyer, the director of the Discovery Institute's Center for Science and Culture, Ralph Seelke, a biology professor at the University of Wiconsin, Superior, and Charles Garner, a chemistry professor at Baylor University.

Meyer, Seelke, and Garner are all signatories of the Discovery Institute-sponsored "Dissent from Darwinism" statement. Meyer and Seelke are also coauthors of Explore Evolution: The Arguments For and Against Neo-Darwinism (Hill House, 2008), which, like Of Pandas and People, is a supplementary textbook that is intended to instill scientifically unwarranted doubts about evolution. A recent review by biologist John Timmer summarized, "But the book doesn't only promote stupidity, it demands it. In every way except its use of the actual term, this is a creationist book." Garner reportedly told the Houston Press (December 14, 2000) that he "criticizes evolutionary theory in class."

Meyer and Seelke also testified in the 2005 "kangaroo court" hearings held by three antievolutionist members of the Kansas state board of education, in which a parade of antievolutionist witnesses expressed their support for the so-called minority report version of the state science standards (written with the aid of a local "intelligent design" organization), complained of repression by a dogmatic evolutionary establishment, and claimed to have detected atheism lurking "between the lines" of the standards..

No information can be sent faster than the speed of light.

Prove it. Provide sources.

You've been asked many times and still have yet to provide one shred of evidence to support it.

Nobody is taking it on just your say so.

Please explain what you mean.

Not happening. He can't.

He keeps making blanket statements that he expects us to take on his say so when he expects us to *prove* everything we believe in.

He keeps passing himself off as some kind of expert in everything, when it's clear that he knows nothing of which he speaks because either he's so obviously wrong or can't back it up.

Are you familiar with Maxwells equations. If not look them up : ) That should explain it to you.

LOL I already gave you the equation E=MC2 in its proper form M=Mo/Square root (1-v2)/C2 it is a fairly simple equation. Are you unable to derive the answer to your question from it?

Or is it that you don't believe that E=MC2 is Einsteins famous equation? Is that what you want sourced? Or do you need me to walk you through the equation and show you that as a mass accelerats to the speed of light its mass increases to infinity and consequently can never reach the speed of light? Or is it that you think that light (EM waves) can go faster than light?

Or could it be that you don't want to have to think for yourself and just want an authority to tell you what he thinks? Since you won't take it on my say so, who will you accept, Feynman? Hawkings? Einstein? Dyson? Laughlin? Do you have a favorite? Three of them are still alive so maybe you might want to call them?

This is an important decision for you, because when I produce the quote that verifies everything I have been telling you it means that all of your religious beliefs are false. I want you to be able to accept this pronouncement with humility and awe. Then I will expect an apology from you : )

I shy away when challenged? LOL What is really happening is that I am simply unwilling to spend the time and effort explaining every little nitty gritty detail to you, being challenged on every point, and in the end you will disappear without acknowledging anything or changing your views.

Are you prepared to deny your belief in Jesus Christ if I show you mathematically the answer to your question? If you won't accept the truth, I am not willing to try and force it on you, I would rather just point the way.

Like I said, I don’t need Maxwell explained. I’m asking you to explain what YOU mean by “Fields aren’t physical and two separate fields may appear to be separating faster than the speed of light relatively speaking.”

Or is it your policy to drop names, and then hide behind them? Put up, or shut up.

And it's not that Christianity was *taught* in the schools. It was practiced freely as the Constitution allows.

The 1895 8th grade final exam

http://www.digitalhistory.uh.edu/quizzes/8thgrade_test.cfm

is a good example of what was taught (and isn’t taught today) in schools.

Snopes is calling “false” on this, but I read their reasoning. They don’t claim that this wasn’t the test for 8th graders in 1895, just that it doesn’t prove anything - 40 yr olds cannot be expected to retain the information that an 8th grader has been drilling on for weeks.

So what? It still shows what was being taught - and it wasn’t “diversity”, “condoms”, and “global warming”.

Then why did it trap itself on the other side of the event horizon or us on this side? Where communication with it is impossible?

Are you calling God "it"?

Yes, does that bother you? I hope you don't think that because I called God it, that that implies any kind of acceptance of its existence.

Okay! I am glad you don't need Maxwell explained : ) I was afraid that I would have to walk you through the field equations and transforms. So you won't have any problem when I explain that you simply take two separated space-time fields and accelerate them apart from each other. After each of them is going over half the speed of light, relative to each other, they will appear to be separating at greater than light speed creating an event horizon if you will. The same kind of thing happens in a black hole. The important thing to note is that a field is massless and does not propagate faster than the speed of light and that no information is being propagated faster than the speed of light.

If you hate God that much there's no point in my telling you of my faith.

Hate God? How can I hate something that doesn't exist? And telling me about your faith is exactly like me telling you about my belief in Dispator, except that I don't believe in Dispastor : )

So, if there was a God and He did create the universe just as it is, what fault do you find with Him. I ask because I have a new workmate that has quite a list of grievances with God. He also won't say "God" but says "some diety".

Talking about me behind my back? LOL

He keeps making blanket statements that he expects us to take on his say so when he expects us to *prove* everything we believe in.

I provided evidence to support my position. I can't help it if your third grade education didn't give you the tools to do algebra.

He keeps passing himself off as some kind of expert in everything, when it's clear that he knows nothing of which he speaks because either he's so obviously wrong or can't back it up.

I have never said I am an expert, I am simply trying to explain what anyone who has taken (and understood) a High School level class in physics knows.

I find it intensely amusing to watch people like you, who deride science, become unhinged when looking at a little math : )

I would have no grievance with God. In fact I would stand in awe and reverence at him and his creation : ) I am a seeker of truth and knowledge, not an embittered anti anything except ignorance and superstition.

When I was a young evolutionist my complaint was God's lack of a relationship with me...and the terrible shortness of life.
