The Obama camp seems to be opposing McCain on this.

Good idea, yes.

If you’re taking a poll on personal opinion, which this must be, I will cast a vote for the “it doesn’t matter one bit” button. And no I am not “undecided”. It just doesn’t matter to me at all.

Great idea because that is true leadership. Obama can follow as usual.

Besides, what can a 2-yr junior senator offer of substance? Particularly one who has spent most of that time campaigning....and now, apparently doesn’t know how to do anything else.

its a gamble.

I agree. I think it's too much of a risk at this point. Obama can make it appear like McCain is the one who's afraid to debate.

Is he siding with the Democrats, Paulson, Bernake and GWB?

There have been many times his moves have pissed me off. Many times through this campaign I wondered where this guy was when he was supposed to be representing Arizona. But, I remember a time he voted one way despite what many wrote or called asked him to. He said he was voting his conscience.

great move...if the following can happen:

1) something gets resolved and voted on by Friday
2) McCain can sweep into the debate Friday nite and clean mr obama’s clock
3) McCain and Palin can stay in the news cycle about all of this....

yes, it’s a good move. i guess i’m old-fashioned, but since both of these guys are PAID to do the work of the Senate, not run for Prez, they should be there doing the work they are paid to do, and especially with the gravity of the situation. if Senate work can be phoned in and done long distance as Obama seems to do, then let’s cut their darned salaries. we could use the money to bring down the debt/deficit.

If McCain sticks to his guns and comes up with some good commercials to blast Obama....Well,then, this could be his best move yet.

The upside potential for McCain is enormous, especially if he leads the charge to fix the mess. If the Dems sit on their hands and do nothing to fix the economy, and it tanks, the Dems and Obama get the blame.

McCain has "stolen" the Dummies issue.

I think both political parties NEED TO WORK TOGETHER. Yet they continue to FAIL their country and constituents. Im seeing what very well could be grave consequences if this is not handled very carefully. Pelosi needs to put her photo ops aside and start doing her FREAKING JOB.

They both WANT to be President, but they both ARE Senators. They were elected by the people of Arizona and Illinois, respectively, to serve the nation’s interest. Taxpayers are paying their salaries to serve the country in the Senate.

We are at what is being termed an “economic Pearl Harbor,” with the possibility of a depression looming. There’s a huge difference between campaigning and governing. They should both be doing the job they’ve already been hired/elected to do.

Instead, Obama is spending days holed up in a hotel room with advisors preparing him for a political debate?

Oh but he's equally good at reading speeches off teleprompters.

COUNTRY FIRST. Not just a campaign slogan

This is an excellent move. Classic McCain.
Omaba, already on record that he thinks Fridays debate should go on as planned, could be left looking like a fool if he shows up by himself.

The problem I have with this is that I absolutely cannot envision a real scenario - one that actually happens - in which this ends up working to McCain’s benefit.

If McCain is counting on the media to frame this as he would have it framed, he has lost the gamble.

If he is hoping to be credited for helping to solve the problem, I cannot yet see how this happens.

Honestly, I’m baffled. Perhaps it’s a chance to get the microphones in his face so that he can start defining himself again instead of being silenced by the media and thus defined by them.

Also, as an original Sarah Palin die-hard backer.............let’s stop with the interviews with Obama supporters and heir stupid “gotcha” questions already. Enough.

I pray that McCain is making the right move. I pray because I am not confident.

What I just find so amazing is that there is any thinking person that could have confidence in Obama when it comes to the economy. Here's a guy that's never run a business, never had to meet a payroll, never made an important executive decision, has two examples of handling money that he can point to; the Anneberg Challenge where he managed to burn through $140 MILLION with Zero results and his campain where he has burned through $300 MILLION just to keep himself in a tie.

Doesn't instill a lot of confidence in me. Hahahahahahahaha!

Bad idea to stop campaigning, bad idea to support a bad bill, bad idea to support an unpopular bill. Just bad.

McCain and his team should be going after Obama's jugular right before the debate to throw him off (Ayers, Rezko, Bitter Clingers, Wright, Fannie/Freddie contribution ads). Instead they decide to stop and go to Washington and hangout with the Paulson puppets.

P.S. I hope I'm wrong, and this ends up being a great idea.
