I'm hearing on Fox that the Republicans do not support the bailout and Pelosi says she can't get passage without Republicans.

Why not? Don't the Democrats have a majority? Or does this bill require more that a simply majority?

What I love about this is it’s all taking place right before an election that is going to show who is for us and who is against us.

The conservative senator from South Carolina, Jim DeMint, opposes the bailout/socialization of Wall Street.

Dems don’t want to pass a Bailout bill without Republican support. They want everyone to take ownership, so no one gets the blame.

“Do you have any idea the impact on everyone savings . Where you around for any massive bank meltdowns ???”

Don't/won't own stocks or bonds and don't owe anyone a cent for anything.

Have enough savings to last over 10 years and I grew up during the last depression and got an earfull about my G G Grandfather losing the bank he owned, Pomona First National Bank, in the depression of the 1880s and everything he owned.

Bring it on, the irresponsible of the last 3 generations need to lose everything. It's the only way they will learn to live responsibly.

This is a perfect opportunity for McCain to start naming names and identifying pork.

I was thinking the same thing. Have the congressional Republicans set this up so that McCain can ride in, successfully negotiate and push a bill through and thereby save the day?

I do not support it. I just received a far better plan and this one merely concerned the 85 billioin for AIG. Say there are 200 million adults in the US. Divide the 85 billion by 200 million--457,000 for every adult. We all pay 127,000 in immediate taxes. We pay off houses, credit cards, student loans, put money in savings for future college kids . We are debt free; the banks have money to lend; the govt. immediately gets back more than a quarter of the bailout--everybody is happy except AIG, and they can tighten their belt and restructure.

I didn't actually do the math, but if it is correct, only think how it would be if they disbursed the 700 billion as a TAXPAYERS WELL-DESERVED REBATE.

I’m listening to this on radio so I don’t always know who’s speaking. Bernanke is right now answering a great question by a congressman who knows his history. Who was that?

That is my thoughts exactly. We elect these people to do what is right, and expect them to understand the issues before them.

Just to vote however your public wants is crap and not the idea behind a representative republic.

The House doesn’t filibuster, only the Senate.

They want to hang this on the republicans and it’s not going to happen if republicans don’t vote for it.

Oh, OK. The Dems won't pass the legislation without the Republicans, although they could if they wanted to. That is now clearer to me. Thank you.

Ooops! I, for some reason, was thinking of Pelosi as a Senator. (I know - gaaaack!) I'm sure she thinks she's the leader of the free world.

Well, you’re only off by a factor of 1,000 or so.
