Just heard that Republicans do not support the bailout - anyone know more?

I'm hearing on Fox that the Republicans do not support the bailout and Pelosi says she can't get passage without Republicans.

Let’s see if they change their minds when people can’t buy food because the banks and credit markets stop working.

Bush & Paulsen are right on this.

Pelosi is lying. Dems are the majority, she only needs a majority. What she means is that she needs Republicans for cover.

No, it's probably that stupid filibuster thing again. "Oh, well I'll filibuster you."

And then they go, "Darn. Now we can't do anything."

Just a claim of a filibuster stops things now. I want to see them actually filibuster.

There are ways to accomplish a “bailout” without implementing the Bush/Paulson plan. Look an Gingrich’s proposal. Couple that with an insurance proposal on the securities instead of straight out BUYING of them and we’re actually in a better place than with the B&P plan.

Best advice I’ve heard today.

If the banks stop working, things stop working.

They will pass it, but it needs to have oversight and it needs to be PORKLESS. If they just pass it in a half assed way it will be even worse.

Shelby has been against it, too. Really, so many of these Senators and Congressmen are just craven fools. They’re too stupid to understand what they are signing, so they respond to things like constituent phone calls when only the real nutters call their congressman on something like this.

Attach a growth plan:

1) Elimination of the capital gains tax for 2 years.

3) Repeal of Sarbanes/Oxley.

Drudge had on his site that only 4 House Republicans were planning on voting for the bill, as of a House GOP meeting this AM.

If the House Republicans kill this, we have a GOP House in November, regardless of who wins the WH.

Dirty little secret: There is not a lot of support for this bill among my colleagues on trading desks. Just for what its worth. Many see it as a power-grab by Goldman Sachs.

In the Senate you need 60 votes to end debate, so the Republicans could torpedo the bailout bill, but in the house it’s a simple majority rule. If Nancypants can’t ramrod the bill through without Republican help, then all of the Dims are not on board.

Fine with me. I was responsible with my money, why should I pay for those who weren’t.

I have lost patience with paying the bills of every lost socialist experiment Congress can think up. They don’t need a bailout, they need a good old fashion trip to the woodshed.

Do you like paying the mortgage of everyone who makes $30,000 a year that got to buy a $250,000 house with no money down and no income/debt ratio management? I don’t.

Failure was inevitable and they will still fail. This is only a finger in the hole. Better to bleed a bit now than bleed out later. It will only get more unmanageable as time goes on and more government bloating.

but why does Bush love the economics of the democrat party so much?

He seems to go along with them economically all the time.

Don’t get me wrong, without him we would be Muslim by now but he threw away all his political capital by going along with the Dems all the time.

The best thing he could have done is cleaned house in Washington on day 1. All the Clinton hold overs destroyed his presidency.
