I'm hearing on Fox that the Republicans do not support the bailout and Pelosi says she can't get passage without Republicans.
Not with all the Dems’ pork, probably not.
would that not mean that there are also democrats who do not support it?
Good. Too many earmarks and it does not address corruption. Let them fail and the market will right itself after some withdrawal pains ( major pains ).
If the Pelosi statement is true, then there is bi-partisan support to nix the current bailout.
Pelosi is lying. Dems are the majority, she only needs a majority. What she means is that she needs Republicans for cover.
Wasn’t it Pelosi who said that they would not pass the bailout if McCain did not vote for it? Apart from the obvious gaffe of prematurely giving John McCain veto power, the Democrats put him in the position having to devote his full attention to the bailout.
Who knows what kind of behind the scenes political pressure is being put on John McCain in an effort to distract him from the debate.
This is a perfect opportunity for McCain to start naming names and identifying pork.
Get ready, this country is going down.
I find that hard to believe, Republicans in Congress haven't done anything Republican since Newt left.
Good. Best suggestions I’ve heard so far have been to suspend corporate and capital gains taxes temporarily (up to two years). If the incentive is there, there is plenty of liquidity sitting on the sidelines to resolve this situation without putting the taxpayer on the hook and without completely socializing our financial systems.
LET THE FREE MARKET ROLL, BABY!
Chuckie Schumer and Bawney Frank and Chris Dodd et al have loaded Paulson’s bill up with all kinds of pork...even wanting to bail out car loans and credit card bills that dead beats have run up.
Joe Barton (R-TX) said he won’t vote for the bill in its present form, and it does not have enough votes to pass. So McCain is doing the right thing by being in on the ground floor of whatever new bill they can come up with.
Its more than the market. Its dollars and the entire banking system the Democrat leaders are crashing because they think they have it pinned on Republicans.
Drudge is reporting that only 4 Repubs support the bill.
You are correct I meant market in a very broad sense. :)
Exactly...Pelosi would have already gone ahead with this, she is doing exactly what you suggest. Funny, the dems want to vote WITH the President who they normally refer to as Satan....LOL
I have been calling DC the last 2 days...
on the record—
Pence says not to “bailout”— the rest say “don’t know, need to see what is in it first”
off the record— they are getting tons of calls....they want to pass it, because they are scared of the fall out if they don’t. they “think” we don’t understand exactly how baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad this really is......but they are afraid to support it because they know we are furious.....
my thoughts— they are more scared that there will be riots in the street when the economy crashes, where we will just be pissed if we they do pass it....
anyway— that is my research and my thoughts
True. The little bit I have read suggests that the dems want money to also go folks who lost homes. Sort of like paying twice for the same sin. I think there are pork projects too. Some leaders, like Voinovich (barf), are waiting to determine if they are for it or against it, on the Republican side.
As far as I am concerned, there are a bunch of spineless weanies in DC that would rather complain about somebodies idea instead of rolling up their sleeves and solving a problem.
House Republicans met in am: Just 4 members support Paulson plan... Source - Drudge Report
The Issa newsletter I got says he’s totally against it.
“How can any American look their neighbor in the eye and suggest that they should bear the losses for the mistakes and greed of Americas wealthiest financial firms? I am emphatically against it.”
