Just curious....

Does anyone here really think Gustav is headed for New Orleans? Could it be that the projections are just wishful thinking on the parts of those making them? Are we taking them seriously?

I'm not saying it won't hit New Orleans. I'm just wondering and maybe a bit skeptical.

What are they doing with the pets? Allowing people who do not have their own transportation to take pets with them on the bus?

I am so thankful in an emergency situation I do not have to take a bus out of town. Prayers for those who do.

I heard from my son this morning. He and his girlfriend and all of her Americorps coworkers were headed out of NO and up to Tennessee for the duration.

This mom let out a huge sigh of relief. They packed plenty of water and food for the trip and hopefully ALOT of patience.

Praying that all get out of the way of this storm.

Somewhere on FR is a post that says Gustav is now a Cat 5— can anyone verify?

WSPA quotes FEMA chief: "The government’s disaster relief chief says Hurricane Gustav is growing into a monster Category 5 storm." Note the phrase "growing into." Still a 4 until the NHC says otherwise but don't be surprised if that changes soon.

Thank God for Gov. Jindal ... he's definitely IN charge.

BATON ROUGE – Today, Governor Bobby Jindal issued an executive order that will allow for streamlining funds in recovery efforts for damage resulting from Hurricane Gustav.

In doing so, Governor Jindal appears to recognize that it is important for government agencies to provide necessary aassistance quickly but to do so that is fiscally sound, ethical and above reproach. Here is here the Executive Order for Emegency Procedures for Conducting State business which has been provided to the media by Governor Jindal's press office:

Are you getting storms, Rod?

Prayers for all those in harm's way.

Does anyone here really think Gustav is headed for New Orleans?

I think Gus will make landfall in Texas, but he is very large and storm surge could hit LA, especially if he skirts along the LA coastline. I do not think it is hype, they are in the cone, 30 foot high waves...it is best to leave when you live in a bowl and are down along the coast.

just my 2 pennies.

If you read what the forecasters wrote, they said themselves they could NOT predict where Gustav will make landfall. Now, they have a storm, it’s headed in the general direction of La. They gotta put something in the way of info out there, they can’t just say,” hey, storm comin, lookout on the coast.”
