Silicon Valley is experimenting with bacteria that have been genetically altered to provide 'renewable petroleum'. Ten years ago I could never have imagined Id be doing this, says Greg Pal, 33, a former software executive, as he squints into the late afternoon Californian sun. I mean, this is essentially agriculture, right? But the people I talk to especially the ones coming out of business school this is the one hot area everyone wants to get into.........

Not for nothing but the headline is misleading. This is old news about 1yr. These are bio-engeneered bacteria. They have them pooping gas, diesel, jet fuel, as well as light crude oil and some other stuff. Scaleability is the issue.

I am starting to think that all these stories about energy solutions on the horizon are only serving to pacify the public. So far, not a single one has hit the market and made a difference.
