My first posting - think I've done everything right but if not, feel free to delete, move, whatever's appropriate.
Came across this site of a firm making 20mm rifles amongst others and found that here in the UK, they're still legal. OK,OK, it would entail me moving house because the ranges at which I could shoot one are 100miles+ away and I would have to spend a lot of my savings and I'm currently in between jobs, so not currently feasible. But the prospect of owning one did cross my mind...and they are tempting...
Anyone own one of these/similar? What are they like to own/shoot?
My father had a .600 Nitro Express double rifle when I was growing up. No recoil pad, talk about HURT. I could never bring myself to touch off that other barrel.
We have those.....that thing blew up on the 30th shot !....:o)
That’s just the ammo bill after first weekend shoot in Texas ........add Beer, BBQ , Babes, Brasso (for the stripper poles)......add’s up quick.

Believe it. You are right regarding the M4 unless it was in 22lr/wmr - the Ruger 10/22 is legal, but any semi-auto rifle apart from calibre 22lr/wmr is illegal(banned since 1988). Alternatively they are legal as a straight pull bolt action and thus so configured are used in practical rifle shooting (like IPSC but with rifles). Still, there are bright points and this is one of them:

I have two Ruger 10/22's with Volquartsen Trigger Assemblies, those would be legal over there.
I knew that the U.K. has passed some anti-gun laws some years ago, which is hard to understand, considering its vast and rich firearms manufacturing, ownership and history.

Actually not. It was only fully automatic weapons that were restricted in 1986. The 90mm is a “destructive device” (and in this case I’d say the BATF actually is accurate) and their supply has been limited for some time. I think that something was done in 1968 to limit the supply, because until then you could purchase WWII PAK 37s and PAK 41s in several calibers (37mm & 42mm I think I remember seeing advertised)

These rifles are legal (for now)because of their mechanism (not semi auto) and the fact that there is no upper limit on calibre for rifles. They have attracted some attention though of those who would like to prohibit them (see the bit on the site about anti materiel weapons), so I don’t know for how much longer we can own them. Something to bear in mind when paying $10,000+ for a rifle and I got burned 10 years ago when I had to export my handguns because they were banned.

I have settled for a .45-70 Marlin and a single-shot Harrington and Richardson. I can get .45-70 ammo from around $1 per round if I reload or find bargains.
It isn't really exotic but it sure is a big bang, with a big fireball and lots of recoil, if you use hot ammo. It approaches the .458 Winchester magnum.

No problem; some advice: be careful about whom to rely on to defend gun rights. Some of the most ignorant, bigoted people around are...other shooters who don’t own the same types of firearms that you do and cannot see any reason why you should have them. They also think their property will be safeguarded if you lose yours. :-(
