Actually not. It was only fully automatic weapons that were restricted in 1986. The 90mm is a “destructive device” (and in this case I’d say the BATF actually is accurate) and their supply has been limited for some time. I think that something was done in 1968 to limit the supply, because until then you could purchase WWII PAK 37s and PAK 41s in several calibers (37mm & 42mm I think I remember seeing advertised)
