January 11, 2008)--Authorities in North Carolina said late Friday morning pregnant Marine Lance Cpl. Maria Lauterbach is dead.
They said shes buried in a shallow grave, for which investigators are now searching.
They identified the suspect in the case as a Marine officer whom she accused of sexually assaulting her.
Police earlier were planning to interview a man who lived with her and said he would answer questions that "will shed a lot of light on the case."
Authorities said again Friday Marine Sgt. Daniel Durham isn't a suspect, but police believe he's the last person to speak with the Marine.
She disappeared Dec. 14 ahead of her expected testimony in a military investigation into her claim a senior officer had sexually assaulted her.
Court documents show the investigation went sour amid inconsistencies in the woman's story and allegations that she's bipolar and a compulsive liar.
Search warrants show she was facing a possible discharge from the service.
Lauterbach was eight months pregnant when she disappeared.
Quite interesting that the FBI is able to figure out that Cesear Laurean would flee to Mexico if found guilty of rape. In order for him to be found guilty, the child would have to be his. According to reporting, he said he never had any relations with Maria. I guess he admitted to his buds that he did.
Laurean’s wife, Christina, is now living on base with the 18 mo daughter. Apparently, she was called back to duty.

Freema, who knows what happened in that house. But if the major blood stains were found on the wall, it wouldn’t come from a botched attempt to take the baby. Any major blood from that attempt would be on the floor.

(CNN) -- A woman who once worked with fugitive Marine Cpl. Cesar Laurean and the pregnant Marine he allegedly killed said Wednesday that Laurean has "MacGyver" skills and training that could enable him to adapt to life on the run.
A warrant has been issued for Marine Cpl. Cesar Laurean, who's been charged with murder in Lauterbach's death.
The Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, woman requested that she remain anonymous.
Earlier Wednesday, an FBI spokesman said the agency suspects Laurean may have returned to his native Mexico.
The woman, who left the Marines in December, described Laurean as well-trained to adapt to his situation.
He can rig just about anything -- as could the lead character in the "MacGyver" television series of 1985 to 1992 -- is strong, a fast runner and can handle weapons, including an M-16, she said.
She said Laurean is quiet but social, and has many friends. He often spoke to her about his 18-month-old daughter.
One wonders why he was given a job behind a desk.
The truck belonging to an Onslow County fugitive and abandoned in Morrisville has been brought back to Onslow County.
Investigators with the State Bureau of Investigation, Onslow County Sheriff's Department and Naval Criminal Investigative Service are processing a black 2004 Dodge Ram pickup for evidence they hope will lead them to murder suspect Marine Cpl. Cesar Laurean. They started going over the truck at 8 a.m. today "at a secure location" and expect to finish this afternoon, according to Capt. Rick Sutherland with the Onslow County Sheriff's Department.
Sutherland told reporters that investigators had recovered forensic evidence from Laurean's truck, but he would not say what that evidence was.
FRiends - time to say g’nite.
Wasn’t there a Navy pilot, a woman, who lost her commission a few years ago because she had an affair with a married man?
4 years sounds inflated.
I still don’t think he’s that savvy of a criminal. His biggest asset may have been that he got an early start when he fled. According to his command, he wasn’t at work from Tuesday afternoon on - a full 2 1/2 days before his wife turned in the note. Supposedly he was meeting witb his lawyers. That seems a stretch (and expensive) to spend that much time with lawyers. He kept in contact with his command by phone throughout each day until Friday when, voila, he couldn’t be reached by phone. He could have been calling them from Timbuctoo on his cell.
Don’t know if anyone reliable can confirm they saw him after that. Either way, he had a lot of time to plan (those 2 1/2 days).
Neighbors Worried About Marine Manhunt
Action News has learned new information about the Marine charged with first degree murder in the death of a fellow Marine.
The woman murdered was 8 months pregnant.
Authorities are on the hunt for Lance Corporal Cesar Armando Laurean. He graduated from Palo Verde High School in 2005.
His parents live in Las Vegas, and today Action News had a chance to get some reactions from neighbors.
Mike Clancey cannot believe the Marine on the run hits so close to home. He is neighbors with the parents of Laurean.
The 21 year old attended Palo Verde High all four years.
And just like any other high school student, was involved in activities like ROTC.
Clancey says he does not know Laurean's parents, but worries the suspect may return home and cause trouble.
"The guy is on the run for a reason, just hope he doesn't do anything else crazy."
Authorities have been looking for the Marine since he left Camp Lejeune, North Carolina on Friday.
On Saturday, investigators discovered the charred remains of a woman and unborn baby in the suspect's backyard.
They believe it is missing Marine Corporal Maria Lauterbach.
In the last couple of days, witnesses claim they have spotted Laurean at a bus stop in Louisiana and his truck back in North Carolina.
Today Lauterbach's missing debit card was found at a bus station in Durham, North Carolina.
Authorities say Lauterbach worked with Laurean at Camp Lejeune.
She went missing in December, just days after meeting with Marine prosecutors to talk about allegations Laurean had raped her .
The victim's family says they believe the father of the child was Laurean.

Marine's possible flight to Mexico complicates case
"...Laurean was born in Mexico and maintains several Spanish aliases. He became a U.S. citizen in 2003 and was living in Las Vegas, Nev., before enlisting in the Marines a year later, according to Marine Corps officials and FBI reports.
Laurean likely sacrificed any citizenship rights he maintained in Mexico when he joined the Marine Corps, but that's an untested question in Mexico, Ornelas said.
The FBI is feeding investigators in Mexico tips about Laurean's possible whereabouts and asking them to check on the FBI's behalf, said Newsom Summerlin, FBI special agent in Charlotte.
Laurean also faces a federal flight charge, according to FBI officials. Meanwhile, Marine Corps investigators have asked to perform an independent autopsy of Lauterbach and her fetus, said Hudson, the DA. Nothing bars the military from trying Laurean for murder. State and military prosecutors typically avoid duplication though, said Scott Silliman, a Duke law professor and expert in military law.
If tried in the military system, Laurean could also face a murder charge for the death of Lauterbach's baby. North Carolina doesn't have a law prohibiting the killing of an unborn child, but the Marine Corps can charge him for the baby's death..."
What if a major artery was cut? Would that cause an upward spurt of blood?
Thought I’d better post this here, also.
