Anti-Mormons Attacks Must Stop, FR is Better Than That (Vanity)
December 12 2007 | jveritas

Posted on 12/12/2007 6:27:59 PM PST by jveritas

Dear FRiends

It really pains me to see some of those vicious anti-Mormons attacks we see on Free Republic disguised under the “freedom of speech. Attacking people based on their Mormon faith is really disgusting and it is an insult to this great forum. People who do not like Governor Mitt Romney based on his positions are free to express their opinion as such, but people who attack him because he is a Mormom should be ashamed of themselves and must not be allowed to do so.

I greatly hope that Free Republic members and moderators will get together and help in stopping this anti-Mormon vitriol, this great Free Republic must not be tainted by these shameless acts.

At least Romney practices his religion, which is more than I can say for most of the other candidates.

So did Anton Levey and Alister Crowley.

Personally, to me, that’s the bottom line.

Great, vote for him.

IOW, I’d rather have a good Jew than a rotten Methodist any day.

Personally I'd just like to have a candidate (Mormon, Atheist, Jew, Jehovah's Witness, Agnostic, whatever) who was not afraid to answer any question posed to him and didn't get offended if people questioned some bizzare of his unique religious beliefs. Romney's religion is probably the most important thing in his life. For that reason alone we need to know exactly what he believes that may be different from mainstream christianity.

Let’s cut through the bs, shall we?

Indeed, we should. Let's not put up roadblocks to determining how a candidate views the world either politically, personally, or religiously. Let's just air out all the dirty laundry.

Thanks!

It’s good to see a point injected into a discussion without “attacking” a position.

Something about presenting an argument without emotion is lacking...

RU dealing with any ice?

Will the FR Mormons cease their attacks on Christians? I’ve read at least one post on FR that labeled Presbyterians and other orthodox Christians corrupt. Doctrinal and religious disagreement is not a one-way street.

Maybe we can have all posters who bring up religion state their own particular religion and denomination. That way, we can have hundreds of arguments and battles about who's right and why.

The term 'Christian' is very broad, and some are misusing it to create some kind of fraternity for the purpose of marginalizing another religion. There are many Protestant denominations, as you mention, that consider other denominations corrupt and damned to hell.

Whenever religion comes up in a thread, I go get the popcorn, because inevitably somebody comes who thinks they know everything including who and who isn't going to hell.

Perhaps you could show us an example of a VICIOUS ANTI-MORMON ATTACK

I asked for an example, what you gave me was someone expressing his opinion.

For example he says, "I consider Mormonism more evil than Satanism". That's not an attack, that's an opinion.

Umm, ok, that you’re full of crap.

Wow, nice debating technique!

How can I possibly respond to such a profound display of intellectual genius.

I'm not worthy.

Interesting point. I hope to see a response from the Mormon apologists.

I'm still not Mormon and don't hope to be but I am not going to challenge their doctrine. It works for them and that's good enough for me.

"Working" during life on earth and working in the afterlife are two different things. Interesting story you had, BTW.

WOW. The MSM has turned the debate away from Romney the candidate to Mormonism the religion. Well played MSM. Keep on asking those “conservatives wonder about his mormonism” questions. Well played. Almost Rovian except he never would have sunk that low.

It's odd how the subsequent 100+ responses on that thread failed to address the comment you cited.

It's ugly to say the least.

“Thank you. Whatever one feels about the Mormon faith, most of the people who belong in that faith are pro-family, pro-conservatism and pro-life. They are our allies, not our enemies. They vote with Republicans in large numbers.”

Except for Mitt. He’s one that didn’t.

‘Wassamadda, you not up to tarbabying tonight? Huh?’ ... Tell her to try another bait with her fishing, that one isn’t working br’er Marlowe.

Sorry I was so slow in responding. I was on the pot getting rid of all that crap I was supposed to be full of.

And they say we're the ones who are doing all the viscous posting.

LOL

Please post a link(s) to what you think are the most egregious examples of attacks on Mormonism in FR threads so I can look them over in the context of the entire discussion in the thread and decide.

Since there are "hundreds if not thousands" of them recently posted, surely you'll be able to post a couple links.

You expect someone who believes that the Church of Latter Day Saints is that evil to never state his view? If he states his opinion as just that, it is an attack? He is supposed to remain quiet for the sake of the village. Where have I heard that before?

This is what you wrote:

"Rudy Giuliani's Catholicism is not an issue in this campaign, mainly because he is at best a nominal Catholic. But if Rudy suddenly had a stigmata experience or claimed to have personally spoken with the Virgin Mary who told him to run for President, you can bet your bottom dollar that Rudy's Catholicism would be getting some serious scrutiny. Well Romney is a follower of a character who in 1830 claims to have been visited by God the Father (who just happened to have a body of flesh and bone) and Jesus Christ and they told his character that all the other churches in the world (yours, mine, everybody's) was is open apostasy and their teachers were all corrupt and that he should join no church. Romney has undoubtedly stood up a thousand times in his lifetime and bore testimony that this Character was a True Prophet of God and that Mormonism is the ONLY TRUE CHURCH on the face of the earth. Every good Mormon is expected to bear that testimony in front of their congregations."

Looks like you're using a totally double standard. Romney hisself is not claiming to have been visited by God the Father in 1830. And neither is Guiliani claiming to have the stigmata, so we're all good, eh? Your "logic" is totally screwed.

Yes, it is a slanderous and hateful opinion, from which decent people recoil. You could say that Julius Streicher’s grotesque and evil propaganda was only opinion as well. But then, he was eventually hanged for his contributions to the Holocaust.

Study the Word a little more.

In John 10:30, Jesus states "I and the Father are one."

John 8:19-20 19Then they asked him, "Where is your father?"

"You do not know me or my Father," Jesus replied. "If you knew me, you would know my Father also." He spoke these words while teaching in the temple area near the place where the offerings were put. Yet no one seized him, because his time had not yet come.

WHy would they want to seize him? Because he was making a claim to be God, which is blasphemy to Jews.

John 8:58-59: 58"I tell you the truth," Jesus answered, "before Abraham was born, I AM!" 59At this, they picked up stones to stone him, but Jesus hid himself, slipping away from the temple grounds.

Why would they pick up stones? Because when Jesus used the words I AM, they worn't just the words I am this or I am that. I AM is a name of God. He was claiming the very name of God. He was claiming to be God.

A much better explaination is given at opensourcetheology.net

” The truth is that the Catholic Church has a pedophile priest problem. The truth is that the Episcopal and Methodist churches have gay problems.”

sigh.
Correction - the Catholic Church has a homosexual ephebophile problem - not a pedophile problem.

Now....I do not think you are a bigot for writing this inaccuracy.
I think a person is a bigot when they continue spouting inaccuracy after they have been corrected.
