Anti-Mormons Attacks Must Stop, FR is Better Than That (Vanity)
December 12 2007 | jveritas

Posted on 12/12/2007 6:27:59 PM PST by jveritas

Dear FRiends

It really pains me to see some of those vicious anti-Mormons attacks we see on Free Republic disguised under the “freedom of speech. Attacking people based on their Mormon faith is really disgusting and it is an insult to this great forum. People who do not like Governor Mitt Romney based on his positions are free to express their opinion as such, but people who attack him because he is a Mormom should be ashamed of themselves and must not be allowed to do so.

I greatly hope that Free Republic members and moderators will get together and help in stopping this anti-Mormon vitriol, this great Free Republic must not be tainted by these shameless acts.

Be my guest. And feel free to browse around the rest of that site. It’s an excellent resource, IMHO.

-—I know you are just joking-—

I was not joking. I hit the abuse button 3 times I think on one thread some time ago and absolutely nothing happened. Some Mormons explained that I should not expect anything, that the attacks and ridicule of their religion had been going on for a very long time on FR.

I thought of leaving at the time, but I did not want to be driven off by these bigots. I did stop posting for about 6 months some time back because of what I thought were anti-Semitic remarks being tolerated. So did one Jewish poster, who used to post Israel related news all the time. He came back for awhile, but I haven’t seen his posts lately.

Who are the Jihadists? That is easy to answer. Are Colofornia, FastCoyote, colorcountry, Zakeet, P-Marlowe trying to attack attack Mormon teachings and embarrass Mormons, and Mormons trying to defend themselves, or is it the other way around? Even a fool can see it is the former. And because of that, the Jihadists do more damage to themselves than they do to the Mormons. Keep up the good work.

you must have been busy spamming threads, so you missed the posts. I, for one, am sick and tired of your Fred Thompson spamming.

Discussing differences is not an attack.

The truth is that until recently the Mormon church taught that blacks were inferior and their black skin a result of God’s curse. The truth is that the Catholic Church has a pedophile priest problem. The truth is that the Episcopal and Methodist churches have gay problems.

Are those attacks against Clinton, HWBush, Giuliani, and Romney?

There is no religious requirement in the Constitution requiring the President to be a member of any particular religion.

That said, former Gov. Romney ran as a liberal Republican in 1994 and 2004. Then, he was a typical Massachusetts Republican — conservative on some fiscal issues, progressive on social issues. He then supported the Brady Bill, Roe vs. Wade and gay rights. He has changed his positions to be able to be competitive in the primaries. Will he switch again or not?

Even Elvis Presley studied Mormonism.

“What do you think of when someone mentions Elvis Presley? The music, the outfits, and his gyrations during his early career, of course. What you probably don’t think of is his spiritual side, witnessed by notes he left in a Book of Mormon. A new movie, currently in production, shows that side of the “King”.

On an Orem soundstage, production is underway on a new movie about Elvis Presley, but it will not focus on his music. Fans certainly remember the King in his early years — young, vibrant. Prior to his death, Presley struggled with alcohol and drugs, which is well documented. What isn’t, was his spiritual journey in those last years.

Rob Diamond, Director/Screenwriter: “Elvis was very interested in spirituality. To me he was a seeker of truth and knowledge, and any information that could make him a better man.”

Rob Diamond has written and is directing “Tears of a King” which explores that part of Elvis’ life. The movie looks at the period when Presley studied the teachings of the LDS Church. He was given a Book of Mormon and visited with missionaries a number of times.

The producers wanted to make this film, after examining Presley’s Book of Mormon, which is now in the church’s historical department. The Osmond family, which knew Presley, was given the book after his death, and donated it to the church.

On various pages throughout the book, are handwritten notes, believed to be written by Presley. He’d underlined the word “KING” throughout the book; and on one page, there is this: “My daughter Lisa needs this church. She’s nine. Please help her...”

Rob Diamond: “My feeling of looking at the passages that he marked, were of a man that was hurting and sincerely wanted help from his maker.”

The numerous handwritten notes— though not authenticated as being Presley’s— were the inspiration for the film.

Rob Diamond: “And so, hopefully, when people walk away from the film they won’t care whether he studied Mormonism, Judiasm or whatever, that they are drawn to a man who was seeking truth and peace in his life.”

No one will ever know, however, whether Elvis indeed found it.

The movie “Tears of a King” will be released next year, to coincide with the 30th anniversary of Presley’s death.”

SALT LAKE CITY 12 December 2007 Like other Christians, we believe Jesus is the divine Son of God. Satan is a fallen angel.

Brigham Young in the new tabernacle at Salt Lake City, Utah, on October 30, 1870: "'Who will redeem the earth, who will go forth and make the sacrifice for the earth and all things it contains?' The eldest son said: 'Here am I;' but he did not say 'send me.' But the second one, which was 'Lucifer, son of the morning,' said, 'Lord, here am I, send me, I will redeem every son and daughter of Adam and Eve that lives on the earth,..."

Has the belief changed since the days that Brigham Young was the President?

Go to the Romney threads and you find plenty but may be what I consider anti-mormom attacks you do not.

The speech should have ended what is turning-out to be a religious test as prohibited by Article 6 of the US Constitution. The "religious test" is wearing thin. There is nothing to prohibit individual voters from applying any test they choose when selecting a candidate.

No what is wearing thin is your complete Hatred of Mormons. You have never shown any perspective when criticizing Mormans. You have no credibility on the subject. Presuming that Graybeard signifys one of advancing age, I suggest you give up the old predjudices.

PS: You can call me a coward but I have nothing else to say to you. It simply would be a complete waste of time.

I didn't criticize Mormons with my original post, I do not hate anyone and the reference to my "advancing age is just moronic.

Here’s a pretty good example.

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1936344/posts?page=107#107

Because that is a Mormon heresy and not consistent with true revelation (the Bible). Mormonism is not Christian. It is false and is dangerous because it looks good (family friendly). It is chocolate covered poison - an insidious evil that enstares the minds of its adherents to blind them to the true Gospel. I consider Mormonism more evil than Satanism. There is nothing hidden about the latter, but the former is “Satan appearing as an Angel of light.”

I think he meant to spell “ensnares”.

Not if he would want to avoid a primary fight and get re-elected.
