I don’t know about in MD, but in VA it is illegal to have anything hanging from your reaview mirror....you can be cited for obstruction of vision.
That guy was smoking brick after brick of herb, and he’s pulling the race card. The air fresheners weren’t because he hadn’t showered recently, I’m sure.
Too many air fresheners could be judged an obstruction or a distraction to seeing properly through the windshield.
I don’t know if this is normally an issue, or how many too many would be.
But I believe there are rules in most states against putting unauthorized stickers on the windshield, or that sort of thing.
that “excuse” was breaking the law.
In NJ it is called a view obstruction and they can stop you for it, ticket you, and make you remove the items from your mirror.
Yes, I got a ticket for my Mardi Gras Beads that my friend brought me back from New Orleans many years ago....
I think that’s a stupid reason to stop someone. I hate cops who go on fishing expeditions. Cops should leave people alone except in extreme circumstances.

Tell me he is just Djoken.
This kinda reads like the guy suspects the real reason he has so many air fresheners on his mirror is that he is Hispanic.
Ain't too flattering!
Jerry: Boy, do you smell something?
Elaine: Do I smell something? What am I, hard of smelling? Of *course* I smell something.
Jerry: What is it?
Elaine: I think it’s B.O.!
Jerry: What?
Elaine: It’s B.O. The *valet* must have had B.O.
Jerry: It *can’t* be. Nobody has B.O. like this.
Elaine: Jerry. It’s *B*.*O*.
Jerry: But the whole car smells.
Elaine: So?
Jerry: So when somebody has B.O., the “O” usually stays with the “B”. Once the “B” leaves, the “O” goes with it.

Obstructing the windshield could be illegal. (Though many people hang things on their rearview mirrors, and over here, there is at least on town where Latino and African descended people are watched more closely by police (as in followed in police cars surreptitiously) and are more probable to be pulled over for bad driving than European or Asian descended bad drivers who speed, don’t signal, etc. Very wealthy town, too).
Wonder why The Frederick News-Post didn't have the sense to ask him how many air fresheners he had and why he had so many.

List of Ping Lists
I come down U.S. Route 15 South every morning, along with a string of other Pennsylvania residents, going to work in Rockville, and it's always a game of cat and mouse with these guys.
Last year, one of the deputy's pulled out into the left lane of traffic, and then played the ol' game of speed-up/slow-down, going between 50-55 and daring anyone to pass him. I was right behind this guy, and so I slid over into the right-hand lane, and then eased by him, careful not to break the speed limit.
As soon as I got past him, he zipped in behind me, turned on his lights, and pulled me over. He then slinked up behind me with his hand on his gun, like I was going to jump out and attack him, took my information, held me there for 20 minutes, and then gave me a written warning for an "unsafe lane change" even though I'm positive that I used my signal light. He was a real jerk.
And of course, us being Pennsylvania residents and not Maryland residents, there's no one we can complain to about the road warrior harassment we get from these guys.
And some of the folks on this forum wonder why I can't stand LEOs most of the time...!
