PROVIDENCE, RI (TDR)- Oscar, the nursing home cat who could seemingly sense the impending death of patients, was found dead early yesterday. The cat gained recent notoriety when reports of his ability to detect the impending death of the terminally ill became public. Seemingly aware that death was at hand, Oscar would reportedly climb into the bed of patients during their final hours...

Sure managed to bring out the usual cat-haters on the site, anyway.
You know, I can understand someone not particularly liking cats, as pets. Birds and small rodents do nothing for me, as pets. But the outright hatred some people seem to have for them goes beyond the rational, and really makes me wonder about what kind of personality defect they (the cat haters, not the cats) have.

Sounds like someone decided that this cat was psychic, and the rumor spread, probably regardless of the facts. People die quite often in a place like that. The rumor turned the residents against the cat. Nothing the cat could do about it. Rather pathetic, really.

Cats steal people’s breath, Oscar steals breath from people who are dying...ergo Oscar dies.

Funny, short bit of humor - lets see how long it takes MSM to pick it up. I remember back in 2002 (I think), when the Onion ran a story about the US Capitol undergoing renovation to add a movable dome and luxury skyboxes. Some Chinese news outfit thought it was a serious story and wrote about it as an example of Western decadence. When they were shown that the fell for a gag, they at first refused to acknowledge it, and then they blamed the West for duping them.

I remember my brother starting his car and hearing a horrible noise, opening the hood, and finding the body of the neighbor’s cat. The guy told my brother he should pay him because “your car killed my cat.” My brother told him, “No, your cat broke my car. You should pay me.”

But the outright hatred some people seem to have for them goes beyond the rational, and really makes me wonder about what kind of personality defect they (the cat haters, not the cats) have. It's that pesky "non servium" attitude cats have. People who feel they deserve to be served just can't stand it. Don't take the joking too seriously. I love my cats, but I've been threatening to turn them into mittens, ear muffs, or a collar for my winter coat for years. They just laugh at me.
