I'm here, but getting ready to go home for the weekend.
A bummer, a good friend at work (the guy who told me about FR) has left the company -- either he quit on the spot or was fired.

Oi. I hate the firing.
I’m off here for now, too, but I’ll be back in the morning. I hope.
And with luck, I’ll be feeling better.

I don't think that's the case here. He was very frustrated with certain policies and procedures related to his work and it could easily have been the point where he'd had enough. He ended up being forced to take on one task that was floated by me a year or so ago -- and I turned it down.
Don't forget, this was the same outfit in which a loaner laptop became my permanent one for its three-year lease period but when a wintertime static discharge blew out the USB ports they could neither replace it (policy: it had a couple of years left) nor fix it (it was "too old").

That's pretty extreme. I also worked for a company that was common-sense averse. Too bad neither of us thought to implement the Scott Adams solution.

That's why I've always liked smaller companies. Much more common sense.
One of the "joys" here are the sites that are block by IT. I used Photobucket a bit for photos, but just as we were setting up a company camera club (for our site), somebody in corporate IT blocked Photobucket because somebody had seen something "racy" on it. They didn't block that account, they blocked the entire site. Well.. okay... it's not directly work-related, but still! I had to post my company picnic photos on Flickr instead...

The Perseids are on this weekend Sunday the 12th, it appears. Need to do some experiments with the new camera to see about long-term and repeated exposures...
