"I didnt understand a word of that." I was punning with Sionnsar.
It's digital in that it deals with computers and electronics, and it's digital in that it deals with waving your fingers, (digits).

"Count your blessings -- or not! For many years I carried a card in my wallet with a table in it, 16 columns and 16 rows, with which I could determine the printable character represented by an 8-bit code, or vice versa, the 8-bit code for a character. I even used it fairly often -- in the good old days." I used to have a program that allowed me to scan through the data recorded on a programmable chip. I used it to scan for the character set.
At the time, I could program chips myself, and it was fun to do modifications to the character set.

It was fun surfing through information looking for patterns. The pattern of a character set is very distinctive.
You’re looking at piles and piles of random dots when A,B,C swims into view. Eureka!
Then you redefine the characters by substituting your own numbers, and copy the information into a blank chip. The most interesting character set I made looked like the bank numbers on the bottom of your checks. Cool!

The character set I had the most fun with was for a logic analyzer (a device a bit like an oscilloscope for looking at digital signals). I had a lot of blank space in the upper part of the character set ROM, so I filled it with graphics that in a 2x2 (2x3?) grid would form chess pieces on a board.
The I took a FORTRAN chess game and ported it to run on the logic analyzer's CPU.

Not really. We designed the logic analyzer to be a general-purpose computer (running CP/M -- this was in the days before DOS), and I just took advantage of the fact. We had many other special graphics to display the waveforms.
Ours looked a bit like this, though it had a slot for a 5-1/4" floppy disk.

I STILL have a fully-functional Z80-based CPM machine in storage; along with an EPSON MX-80 printer.
I keep thinking I’ll get them out, blow out the literal bugs, and show the kiddos what a human can do when dealing with an O/S that knows its place in the universe.

I let go of my Z80 CP/M machine (Alspa ACI-2DS, 4 MHz and FAST on its 1.2 meg 8" floppies) sometime in the 90s, after the terminal died, and when we were living in some pretty tight quarters.
I'm kind of sorry I did, because it was the first CP/M machine to be registered for the Internet "Map" back in the 80s. (This was prior to the advent of the Domain Name System.) And I used to work for the company -- I wrote its BIOS.
Still have the printer we bought a couple of years later, Epson FX-80 (with one pin sticking), though it's not been out of the storage closet in many years.

Great piccie!
I’m just checking in.
I’m not feeling well, but I’ve been lurking off and on, just to try and catch up.
Later!

Thanks! I will, as long as I take the time to do nothing today. Maybe even tomorrow, as well, but I’ll check in, so y’all don’t worry.
