ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) -- Five New Yorkers who reportedly spat on and swore at Walt Disney World patrons were arrested after they allegedly punched a sheriff's deputy in the face, officials said.

The suspects, all from Shirley, N.Y., ranged in age from 20 to 14 years old. Disney security told authorities they may have been intoxicated.

“They have riots now at Busch Gardens.”

Uh-oh. We plan to go there in late June. What’s the story?

As for Disney World, we were there last year in March. We stayed on-premises, at a hotel on the monorail, but after the first night ate dinners in Orlando. We had a very good time, but the five-day/four-night stay was *very* expensive.

Different strokes for different folks. You’d have to put a gun to my head to get me to “The Magic Kingdom” again. When I go to Florida, I head for the beach, and avoid the anus of the state (Orlando/Kissimmee) as much as possible.

When I was a child, I always heard that Shirley and Farmingville = White Trash.

In my part of the Island, the same was true for Elmont and Valley Stream, although they have "diversified" since then.

They were actually from a rather low-rent suburb of NYC, but your point still stands.

“Golf at Myrtle Beach. If you aren’t dying of heat stroke, you are dodging lightning strikes.”

Or alligators. I went every year for a week between 1989 and 1997. The congestion finally got to me. There are simply too many other golf courses that are nicer and less crowded, and where the food is better, and the weather (at least in the Summer) isn’t stultifying.

Grandfather Mountain NC is a nice course. Mountain courses are really catching fire because the weather is so nice. There is a Pete Dye course in Radford Va that is pretty good.

We are going to Williamsburg this week and they have some nice courses. Weather is a bit milder this time of year.

“We are going to Williamsburg this week.”

Were the riots you referred to at the Williamsburg Busch Gardens? That’s the one we are planning to visit.

Well, I didn’t expect they were from Manhattan. Although, money never cares where IT goes.

Someone just corrected me. It’s Kings Dominion that had the problems.

Mine’s is in Pre-K so I could get away with it. It’s the Nuns next year for him so he’s out of luck from here on out. I almost feel sorry for him-almost.

We have a timeshare at the Marriott about 4 miles from Disney. Normally we go around July which really isn't too bad.

Over the years we have watched enjoyable places like the Hoopdy Doo Review which featured a fun live "wild west show" turned into a "Woody Roundup" meet the character place. It use to be the parks were prestine with construction done at night and cleared away by morning. Now walk through them and invaribly you'll see "Fresh Paint-Don't Touch" signs, etc. Last year we saw "Do not feed the birds" signs. I asked my wife, "What would Mary Poppins say." Several rides generally are either closed, broke down, or don't work right. You use to be able to go shopping on Main Street and find some unusual things. Now it's tee shirts and Goofy hats. We would eat at the park and always felt we got our money's worth. Now its like any other high price park food service. And there is very little distinction between the four parks anymore.

I don't wish to degrade Disney. It is still one of the best parks we have been to. If you know how to work the system you will rarely wait for a ride, even it the crowded summer months. It's just not as enjoyable as it once was.

Shirley, Mastic, Farmingville, Eagle Estates, North Bellport were dotted with cheap housing developments and attracted some of the worst elements of urban dwellers to "the country." When they weren't pushing the natives down the stairs, stealing our milk money, or flushing our heads in toilet bowls they pretty much ignored "the hicks."

I was talking to a friend of mine last night who still teaches at Patchogue-Medford, and because of the very irregularly drawn school district lines does, on occasions, get a few of these kids from Shirley. She said even kindergarten teachers are beginning to have a great deal of trouble with hard core discipline problems coming from these areas. If it is starting in kindergarten it doesn't leave much hope for the future.

While I’ll admit, the Magic Kingdom is showing it’s age somewhat, I find my stay at the Epcot hotels very nice. Pricey at certain times of the year, but four star.

I took our daughter to the MK and Epcot during the Christmas Holidays once. I’ll never do that again. The crowds were unreal!

The MK has had some very good renovations in the last few years. Give it another chance during the fall if you can. The summer families are mostly gone, it is cooler and the rates are still low.

Good luck,

Poobear-Orlando

Gee...

Two-hundred thousand patrons at WDW and 5 of them are unruly.

I guess that NEVER happens at Great Adventure or a ballgame.

And Disney is to blame because some of them were intoxicated.

Give me a break.

We are able to get two FastPasses each day before they ran out... After that, the lines were a half-hour or more. Most of them were over an hour.

And that was with FastPasses? What must the lines be like without passes?
