THE FREE SOFTWARE Foundation has declared a jihad on Microsoft and Novell's licensing deal and has declared that it will wreck it using the latest draft of the GPv3.
Peter Brown, executive director of the Free Software Association told Reuters that Open Saucers need to make sure that such deals "don't make a mockery of the goals of free software".

Actually, it contradicts itself.
^^^^^^^^^^There was some talk that Linus Torvalds himself will not support the standard as he quite likes the latest version of GPv2^^^^^^^^^^^
The words of chief OSS-anti-software-fundamentalist himself, Linus Torvalds.
The FSF has called in many jihads and fatwas. I'm surprised one of them hasn't blown themselves up in redmond yet. These guys are the worst.
Ping for your list.
Naughty, naughty. Shouldn't be changing the article title.
Plus, it might as well be Linux.
These programmers already volunteer their time to undermine software developers that like to pay their bills. Yet when they still can't convince the populace that "free" means freedom, they want to wreck it for everyone.
A large portion of Linux development these days is done by programmers getting paid by the corporations that distribute Linux.

In a freaky twist, the free software fundamentalist PJ at Groklaw has a possible different take on the Novell deal, that it could actually keep Microsoft from making patent claims against any Linux distributor or user, not just Novell and theirs. Is Novell actually that smart? Hard to think they are given their history.
You know, it should be pretty easy for Jim Robinson to put in code to catch and kill duplicate posts (same thread, poster, reply to and content == kill it). I got a server error when posting, backed up and tried again, not knowing the first one had actually posted.
I'm getting shiitloads of server errors this morning. There is something going on at FR

I think I made my case fairly well in the first post.
Not only are a good portion of the linux-kernel group not a bunch of software fundamentalists(as torvalds' own words make pretty clear) but the FSF is the one proclaiming this jihad, not the linux-kernel group.
In other words, it's a much more accurate headline.

That's not the topic/goal of the article.
It's possible. History is a good indicator of what the future is going to look like, but nothing is certain until it actually happens.
Yeah, I couldn't log in for a while there.
They'll get it back up tho. I have faith in the FR IT guys.
Guess what, the GPL3 latest draft is out. The anti-TiVo provision is still there, Stallman still wanting to extend his license to control other people's hardware. I don't think Linus Torvalds will be pleased.
This halfman guy is as far gone as I've seen, he's not just drinking the Stallman kool aid, he seems to be injecting it. "Leftist Whackos" is what the title should have said, sounds like they may be muslim whackos to boot.
ROFL, as usual, you couldn't be any more wrong. Well, you did get the word right, "pleased". Except that you said he wouldn't be LOL.
OTOH, software users -- who also like to pay their bills -- have to spend less on software.

I don't see anything there about the TiVo clause, so who knows.
One thing is certain. Torvalds' voice is a powerful one given Linux's high status and profile, thankfully he's not interested in the religion of software. He just wants to make really good software for the sake of having the best stuff out there. And the more people, products, houses, businesses, etc, that use it, the better.
ROFL, as usual, you say I'm wrong and post something showing I'm right. Linus apparently is pleased with the direction the drafts are going, but notice he still says about the TiVo clause "The 'we control not just the software, but also the hardware it runs on' parts still drive me up the wall..."
Looks like I was right. Overall it's better, but he still doesn't like that provision I was referring to.
This also goes prefectly with your "180" claim. Back then he said, as quoted in this article, "Hell no" to that GPL3 draft, but said he could possibly accept a later draft if it addressed his concerns. This disproves your "180" claim back then, as the GPL3 is progressing towards Torvalds' wishes and not the other way around. Stallman is a whacko, but he's not stupid, and wouldn't want the shining star of open source to reject his license.
I read the actual license. It was painful since their writing style sucks. Isn't there some nice ground between legalese and condescension?
You're fooling no one, this soap opera is just another pathetic example of leftists attempting to trick the idiotic. In the end Stallman and Torvalds both believe in copyleft and want to do away with software patents since they infringe on the property rights of so many others, just as you do. The rest is just a charade to hide from the facts.
