Back then he said, as quoted in this article, "Hell no" to that GPL3 draft, but said he could possibly accept a later draft if it addressed his concerns. This disproves your "180" claim back then, as the GPL3 is progressing towards Torvalds' wishes and not the other way around. Stallman is a whacko, but he's not stupid, and wouldn't want the shining star of open source to reject his license.

In the end Stallman and Torvalds both believe in copyleft and want to do away with software patents since they infringe on the property rights of so many others, just as you do.
