Would Stern not have likely taken ANS's case on a contingent fee basis .... and, if she should ultimately recover ... wouldn't he receive [legitimately] a significant portion of the settlement as his FEE? Why should he have to marry her? To get it all?

Hildy, you are quite a romantic. It could, indeed, be a case of true love ... or it will just have to do until the real thing comes along. I wish them well and am truly sorry that ANS's son died so unexpectedly. They may also be kindred spirits, as alike as two peas in a pod. Certainly that is a basis for a good marriage. But, they are not married, are they? Perhaps they share drug habits, schemes, plans and now the tragedy of the mysterious death of ANS's poor son. They may, or may not, share a new baby. I'll wait for the inevitable DNA results to come in. And, perhaps, they are both in it for the money.

Why? He promised to take care of her after he was gone, and she made him happy for the last few months of his life.
Why should she not be rewarded for that?
Gold-digging isn't evil by definition. The Marshall-Smith marriage was a business arrangement in which one party happened to love the other, and the other was fond of the one.
