Freeper Kitchen: What "weird" foods do you like to eat?

Posted on 09/14/2006 8:41:11 AM PDT by HungarianGypsy

This thread reminded me of my dad. He was from Milwaukee, so garlic sausage, herring, cheese, etc., were things he loved. I mentioned that my dad would have herring and limburger cheese on Ritz Crackers every New Year's. He also liked sugar on his tomatoes. Once mentioned that he had eaten opposum (which everyone else at that dinner enjoyed until they found out what they had eaten). If it was different, he was going to give it a try.

The weirdest food combination isn't so much. Just dill pickles and ice cream. I started that in high school. It just makes for a very cold pickle and the flavor is more enhanced. Although, I do think hummus is weird. I have yet to have hummus that doesn't make me think of dirty feet. Tried something that claimed to be babakenish(sp?), which I thought was wonderful.(Although, one of my more well travelled acquaintances said it was not what the menu claimed it was).

Now, it's your turn. Weird food combinations? General food discussions? Or tell me where I can get white soda shipped to Arizona from?

I don't think you can get a real Caesar salad anymore--i.e., with the raw egg--but I do like it with the anchovies, which it is supposed to have.

Not really weird... mustard on my french fries. No ketchup.

My father owns a Dairy Queen, and they serve gravy with their Chicken Strip baskets, and all the customers dip their fries in the gravy. Dad says a lot of people order Large Fries with a side of gravy.

Another odd thing I used to do as a child is put my Doritos on my sandwiches, like a condiment. Every once in a while I get a craving for a bologna and cheese and doritor sandwich with mustard. *LOL*

My husband and I discovered how good reindeer is on a trip to Sweden last month. Don't be looking for Santa this year; we ate quite a bit of his transportation.

I like kim chi--and most Korean food, for that matter. Ate it every day when I lived in Korea for four months.

Even ate dog--once. Not good, but not terrible either.

Also I dip my French Fries in Frosties from Wendy's. My kids do that too.

Do that all the time, :-)

Peanut butter and mayo sandwiches are wonderful. My father taught it to me. My kids think it's gross. He was right, they are wrong.

:^}

That's a little weird, but I was traveling not that long ago with a guy who put mayo on his fries. I couldn't even watch him eat.

Since then, I hear that mayo on french fries is popular in Quebec.

Are those the orange crackers?? In that case, no I haven't. They were way too orange and freaky looking. I have had peanut butter on Ritz crackers, though.

It's more the cheese and jelly combo that have the ick factor.

When I was a kid, nothing beat this combo...

(tend to prefer guacamole to applesauce these days...)

Wheat grass juice (to drink).

Because using a fork would be considered weird. :-)

My favorite weird snack: Peanut Butter and Frito sandwiches.

Crunchy and salty!
