This thread reminded me of my dad. He was from Milwaukee, so garlic sausage, herring, cheese, etc., were things he loved. I mentioned that my dad would have herring and limburger cheese on Ritz Crackers every New Year's. He also liked sugar on his tomatoes. Once mentioned that he had eaten opposum (which everyone else at that dinner enjoyed until they found out what they had eaten). If it was different, he was going to give it a try.
The weirdest food combination isn't so much. Just dill pickles and ice cream. I started that in high school. It just makes for a very cold pickle and the flavor is more enhanced. Although, I do think hummus is weird. I have yet to have hummus that doesn't make me think of dirty feet. Tried something that claimed to be babakenish(sp?), which I thought was wonderful.(Although, one of my more well travelled acquaintances said it was not what the menu claimed it was).
Now, it's your turn. Weird food combinations? General food discussions? Or tell me where I can get white soda shipped to Arizona from?
**Food Ping**
My dad loved scrambled pig's brains -- scrambled up with eggs.
Us kids would flee the house when he came home with a package of pig's brains.
And then of course there are always fried green tomatoes.
Can you tell what region I am from? :^)
Weird foods? Cornbread and seafood gumbo would be considered weird north of the Mason-Dixon......
Just yesterday one of my husband's co-workers said he puts American cheese on his peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Just the thought is gross.
Everyone always laughs at me until they try it; but when I make green beans, I mix in a dash of Splenda or sugar.
Also I dip my French Fries in Frosties from Wendy's.
Martha's Vinyard?............
Hot tuna pasta salad with extra mayo.
I bet you've eaten NABS / Toast-Chees many times and never given it a second thought. In case you haven't, It's peanut butter and cheese crackers....
(just not together)
You can go to Japan and eat garden slugs.
Next time you order french fries in a sit-down restaurant, tell the wait person to put the gravy that would have been put on mashed potatoes all over the fries, instead. DELICIOUS! But they'll look at you funny........
Lutfisk: The piece of cod that passes all understanding.
My kids do that too.
Wassmatter with American Slugs? Not good enough for you?....../s
Fried plantains with pork tripe. Puerto Rican food...
Calimari is weird right? I used to eat chittlins... don't eat pork anymore, however.
