Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Mawwage is what bwings us togethew today!

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

The appt. went very well! It's the best possible news. He said his foot is growing fine, but that his ankles, indeed every joint in his body, is extremely lax. He compared his walking and running to teetering on a narrow beam that he can fall off of any time!

You know, Steve and I were runners...Steve still runs. It was unnerving to us to see Matthew struggle with running...it took all his effort and he never went very fast. Joshua began passing him years ago. I told the doctor this and he said "He'll never be a runner. Focus on other things." Which was just music to my ears...because if he's normal and just can't run...I can handle that. If he can't run because of a problem, that's what I want to fix.

So now we know! No problem, we can work around this.

This doctor also praised me for getting the high tops and getting him into swimming. I can only praise the Holy Spirit for giving me the conviction and the wisdom to do it.

Glad it went well! I think swimming is very good because it's not hard on joints. Any other exercises or support recommended?

He said to make sure if he ever hikes that he has good sturdy hiking boots. And that snow skiing would be fine because of the stabilizing boot. And in-line skating! Bike riding is fine too.

But, although he can play baseball and soccer and stuff, he won't ever be fast at it and likely would not do well on a competitive team...but for fun, it's ok.

in other words, with those types of sports, have fun but don't set him up for failure.

That was my backup plan. To aks the HHers to suggest one idea each and I would make them all into a plot.

Well, I was never all that good at ball sports either... Mom said it was because I didn't crawl long enough :~)

I was always the slowest kid on my softball team because I had trouble running (was never very fit and I had flat feet). It was still fun until I hit high-school age and the other girls were just too far ahead of me.

I've played a few for-fun softball games since and just had to adapt my strategy. If the pitcher is lousy, which they usually are in that sort of game, I just try to get walked and after that concentrate on running. All I'm saying is that Matthew can have plenty of fun with whatever he wants, no matter what his feet are like, as long as you aren't pushing him.

Yeah...he really looks awkward when he runs. And he hates doing it.

Heh...go figure, huh?

Joshua, on the other hand, is as fast as the wind.

Just write about the ninja llamas. Or someone who is tracking them down or something.

Well, we each have our talents and our un-talents.

Hope he continues to do all the things he likes to do. What about some dietary additives? I have a good joint supplement I buy for Bay... MSM/glucosamine/Chondriotin (sp?) supplement... Not sure if it helps but it doesn't hurt. Like my vet's wife said... "Might help, might just make expensive pee".

Well, good! That's not so bad.

Is it something he'll grow out of, to some extent?

Right, only push enough so they do SOMETHING somewhat active. Which 2J has no problem doing already.

My understanding is that he will always have trouble...

But you're right...it's not so bad!

Right. Unfortunately stopping softball coincided with increased schoolwork and my youngest brother's early years, all of which helped my own innate tendencies toward sitting around. Bad habits die really hard.

Right.

See, last summer, my folks got him that swimming pool for our back yard and that's when I got the idea of how much he liked to swim...but when summer was over, we put the pool up and he sat down and was either doing school or playing on the xbox. Mistake! He got to where he was all stove up!

So I started taking him hiking and that's when we started noticing he was turning his ankles all the time and so we got him the high tops. He likes to hike.

But this past summer, I looked around and found the Salvation Army swimming pool deal and it has really been a godsend. I take him 3 times a week to swim, for a couple of hours each time.

And he has swimming lessons too...perfecting his stroke and such. We're going to that in about an hour!

(OT, I hope I get my house cleaned up before you get here! Ahhhh! Heh heh!)

*swoon* indeed. You won't believe the deal we got on this thing! It's a Frigidaire Gallery Series, double convection/conventional oven, 27" wide, and the only problems are at the very top, which no one will see, unless they're 6'7" and happen to be looking for it, is a chip out of the frame area that sits against the box in which it is installed. And down at the very bottom, only on the outside metal covering, is a little dent, which no one but we will ever see, likely caused from moving it around. Because of these two flaws, instead of paying $1900, which is the retail price, we got it for $810! I love the Sears outlet store!

Also, since it looks as though we'll still be here come Thanksgiving, I'll get to fix a HUGH meal in my new kitchen!! WooHoo! SirKit has been shopping eBay and got us a gorgeous new Maytag French door refrig for just over $1000, and a new Maytag 2 cf Microhood for just over $100. He's just an eBay FOOL, I have to say! But he's gotten some absolute stone cold bargains!

One of the specialty things we're going to do, since the view off the deck is so nice, is install a horizontal 3/8" cable rail system instead of the typical vertical balusters. We have to make sure that it's kosher with the town building inspector, but SirKit will install them closer together than usual, just for safety's sake. This way, when you walk in the front door, you can look through the foyer, and through the family room, out the new french doors to the new deck and right out into the woods, without your sight line being disburbed by wooden uprights on the deck. It's gonna be lovely, then we leave. ;o) As I told Jen, though, this is great experience for us in remodeling to sell. I'll definitely have to take before and after pictures so y'all can see what we've done. Forgot to do the befores for the upstairs hall bath, but with the ones from our bath, you can get the idea because they were almost identical. They won't be after we're finished with them!

Since the market is so tight, we really have to make our house make folks want to buy it the minute they walk in. I'm hoping we can do that.
