LOS ANGELES (AP) - George Johnson, considered California's oldest living person at 112 and the state's last surviving World War I veteran, had experts shaking their heads over his junk food diet. "He had terrible bad habits. He had a diet largely of sausages and waffles," Dr. L. Stephen Coles, founder

Goes to show you: genetics trumps environmental factors and habits.

I think I discovered his secret:

Johnson's wife died in 1992 at the age of 92. The couple had no children.

No kidding. What's so bad with waffles and sausage? I make my own fairly often and it's fabulous. Waffles with pure maple syrup, a reasonable smear of fresh, sweet butter and zesty, lean sausage is worth dying for. It also seems to be evidence that it's worth eating in order to live well.

Sounds good to me. A real substantial breackfast.

Yeah, and look at the benefits:

"All of his organs were extremely youthful. They could have been the organs of someone who was 50 or 60, not 112. Clearly his genes had some secrets," Coles said. "Everything in his body that we looked at was clean as a whistle, except for his lungs with the pneumonia," Coles said. "He had no heart disease, he had no cancer, no diabetes and no Alzheimer's.

George Burns lived to over 100 and he used to smoke those filthy cigars too!

Medical science should focus on studying genetics, but that would be non-PC, because they would have to find, that not everyone is the same.

So instead, they spend vast amounts of time and resources working on the 10% of the contribution to disease, and try to reduce that by a few percent, instead of focusing on the real high payoff factor: genetics.

So, if I don’t want to live to be 112 years old (and I don’t), my best recourse is to avoid fast food and avoid “those filthy cigars” and I will die early?

Interesting (and misleading) title for the article. Since when is sausage and waffles "junk food"? It's real food, not the artificial junk most people live on today, which is scary stuff. Real junk food is soda and chips and store-bought baked goods laden with transfats and high fructose corn syrup. Now THAT stuff will kill ya. Not waffles and sausage.

Exactly what I was thinking. When I read the title, I thought he ate nothing but Doritos and Coke. Sausages and waffles may not be liberal food, but they're definitely food.
