Idiocracy (Vanity)

Posted on 09/02/2006 3:13:44 PM PDT by Ptarmigan

Just came back from the movie theater from seeing Idiocracy. It is directed by Mike Judge and had limited release due to offending some people and litigations filed by Costco, Fuddruckers, and Starbucks. It almost got shelved for good as a result. Actually, it is a really funny movie. Private Joe Bowers and a prostitute named Rita are frozen and are forgotten and fast forward to 500 years later. America has gotten dumber. All the dumb people reproduce like rabbits. The world is infested with litter and people are dumb. Bowers and Rita are the smartest. The world reminds me of a city run by lefties, like New Orleans or San Francisco. Everyone has barcodes and half of America is employed by a large drink company. Starbucks is a brothel, while Costco rules the world. Everyone is named after a giant retailer or company and wear clothings with their logos. You should see it.

I saw a movie version of "Harrison Bergeron" made in the last decade or so that seemed to get the point across even better than the short story.

Interesting. I have heard of story like that. I know there is an Ayn Rand novel similar to this called Atlas Shrugged.

My wife and I saw it this afternoon here in Dallas (one of the few cities that has it). It's quite funny. The film takes an equal opportunity swipe at everybody; which of course includes itself. Reminds me a lot of South Park's approach to things.

I had read at one point that Judge quit making Beavis and Butthead when his own kids started acting like them. I wonder if the social commentary in Idiocracy is his atonement for that?

Regardless, it does leave you pondering just what could really happen....

Interesting. After I saw Idiocracy, I was out of the theater, I saw so many people that acted like they are from Idiocracy.

It is so realistic it is kinda spooky.

Bump.

I like the girl trying to get fries out of the Carls Jr machine and then them telling her she is an unfit mother so Carls Jr foster care will be taking her children away...she has no kids.

A must see Dumb Downed America comedy flick.

HBOZW playing now and many times this week.

I feel Mike Judge was too generous for setting it in 2505. It is more like today. Also, every movie has a disclaimer saying the depiction is fictional and everything in it is purely coincendental. Well, for Idiocracy, everything is real.

Indeed. It should be a must see movie. It is a documentary of how society can degrade like today. Idiocracy is like today.

If he gets elected— Obama will get elected due to idiocracy. Meaning idiots have a higher birthrate than intelligent people. Global warming is a sign of idiocracy. So is sucking up to Mexico’s illegal aliens and Arabs instead of producing our own energy
