Are you saying you want the option between the chronological organization of thread comments and the hierarchical organization of thread comments?

I have no problems following the threads.
I really like the format as it presently exists.

Why do you need graphics? You obviously know who the author of each post is and you should know to whom each post is written (check upper left hand corner of each post). Nothing laborious about it.

It's possible to develop a better front-end for Free Republic without changing the current HTML format.
I've been thinking about developing some open-source "Freeper power tools". It could help Freepers with electronic news gathering, formatting, posting, notifications, etc. - with a modern, easy-to-use interface. Anyone who wanted to help with the Research & Development effort would be welcome to contribute their programming efforts.
Of course, it would be intended for Macs. Windows users can continue to use the same dowdy old web format we currently have.

For what it is worth, I think that the Free Republic interface is brilliant. I like it far better than any others out on the Internet.
If by "more graphical representation of who is replying to who" you are talking about the avatars that many of the canned forum sites use, I myself think those are a huge bandwidth waste of very repetitive content. De gustibus non est disputandum.
To: Arcy
I like it the way it is.
It's the OTHER web forums out there that need changing.

The only change I would like to see is the ability for the poster to self edit posts and to delete there own posts if necessary.

How about animated avatars that can jump out of their frames and go beat the snot out of the other avatars? That would be way cool.
