Keywords are a way to leave your own unique marker on a thread for later recall; especially if you leave topically related keywords. They are searchable, thus making an easy method to call up those threads for later reference.

Of course, you sometimes have to resort to odd and truly obscure keywords in order to make the functionality really work well for you, but it's worthwhile if you are truly intent on recovering specific threads easily.

Obviously, all of that effort goes for naught if you forget what keywords you used for a given topic or thread, so practice safe keywording and log them somewhere accessible.
