Gay Bishop slips Queen song into hymnal

Concord, N.H. – Two years after being confirmed as the world's first openly homosexual Bishop, Rev. Canon V. Gene Robertson exercised his new power Friday by adding Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" to the list of songs to be printed in the New Hampshire Episcopal Church's new hymnals, which will be distributed to churches within Robertson's diocese in June.

"My hope is that the congregation can look past the non-traditional lyrical content and see that Freddy Mercury's melodies are just as uplifting as conventional Church hymns," Robertson said, adding that he's "always had a special place in [his] heart for Queen."

Robertson also said he was still considering adding a George Michael song to the 453-page hymnal: "'Faith' would be the obvious choice, but I've always kind of been partial to 'Father Figure.'"

It had me fooled too, until I started wondering about what Hymnal any bishop get to choose music for. The Episcopal Church isn't currently revising the hymnal, and if they were, there would be an independent music committee, over which the bishop would have zero authority.
