Why Saint Patrick's Day?

Saint Patrick's Day has come to be associated with everything Irish: anything green and gold, shamrocks and luck. Most importantly, to those who celebrate its intended meaning, St. Patrick's Day is a traditional day for spiritual renewal and offering prayers for missionaries worldwide.

So, why is it celebrated on March 17th? One theory is that that is the day that St. Patrick died. Since the holiday began in Ireland, it is believed that as the Irish spread out around the world, they took with them their history and celebrations. The biggest observance of all is, of course, in Ireland. With the exception of restaurants and pubs, almost all businesses close on March 17th. Being a religious holiday as well, many Irish attend mass, where March 17th is the traditional day for offering prayers for missionaries worldwide before the serious celebrating begins.

In American cities with a large Irish population, St. Patrick's Day is a very big deal. Big cities and small towns alike celebrate with parades, "wearing of the green," music and songs, Irish food and drink, and activities for kids such as crafts, coloring and games. Some communities even go so far as to dye rivers or streams green!

I had business law and accounting too. Torts, chattels and appurtanences. Hope I spelled them right.

LOL... It has been so long, that I had to look up appurtanences in my legal dictionary becasue I had no idea what that even was.

I came up with appurtenant - attached to something else; in the law of property, it refers especially to a burden such as an easement or covenant or a benefit to the owner like an easement.

Sorry. I got caught up in all the confusion of trying to talk to six people at once.

What is your favorite kind of music?

What is your major in school?

How long before you finish school?

Where would you like to live when you finish school?

What kind of job would you like to have?

Ever think of joining the military?

Do you have any hobbies?

And if He doesn't turn their hearts,
May He turn their ankles
So we will know them by their limping.

This reminds of the liberals who are just lame all around.

Yes, from what I remember from 1971 in college it is an attachment to a home or property that is a permanent part of the property that cannot be legally removed when the property is sold. (If I remember correctly).

You're so nice :) I like country music. Almost every CD I own is country: Toby Keith, Lonestar, Dierks Bentley. Johnny Cash is my favorite. What about you?

OK, then, let the interrogation begin.

LOL! Okay...

Do you have any hobbies?

Not really. I spend most of my life working on schoolwork and work. I do like to read or watch movies whenever I get a little free time.

What kind of music do you like?

All sorts - from country, to classical, to rock. Pretty much anything but rap.

What kind of college degree do you have, if any (I assume you do, but you what they say about assuming)?

Bachelor's, master's, and Juris Doctor (law). I'm currently working on my Ph.D.

What kind of job are you looking for?

I want to teach at a university when I finish my current degree.

Where in the country would you prefer to live?

Illinois. I really don't want to have to leave the state if I don't have to. If I do have to leave Illinois, I will stay in the midwest.

What kind of rifle is that red, white, and blue one, please? At first glance, it looks like a Ruger .22, but I'm not well-versed in rifles. If it were a Ruger, I'll be sorely tempted to look for one. I don't exactly need a rifle right now, but it's a neat gun.

Logic does not make sense to these people.

The teacher who got mad at me was because we had to go to a local jail as a class. Got locked into a cell, then had to mingle with the prisioners and come back to class and discuss how that made us feel. I was the only one who said it was too cushy there. These people were criminals, why were we treating them to work out gyms, game rooms, library books, unlimited resources...etc. They deserved to be punished, not living on my dime.

I'm not a big country fan. I do like Toby Keith and also Charlie Daniels, though.

Mainly, I like just about anything 80s, especially the metal and hard rock, but really, just about anything. Also 70s pop and rock, as well as Motown. Even a little New Age if the mood strikes.

You pronounce the "r" sort of like a "d".

Every = e-ve-dy.

Oooooooooooooooooo!!! Are we playing 20 questions?!?!?!?

Here’s mine:

1. Why is it that to stop Windows, you have to click on "Start"?
2. Why can't women put on mascara with their mouth closed?
3. Why don't you ever see the headline "Psychic Wins Lottery"?
4. Why is a boxing ring square?
5. Why is it considered necessary to nail down the lid of a coffin?

like reading the King James Version of the Bible, I just don't understand the language

For some reason, I never had trouble understanding the KJV. I liked other translations better, but I read KJV on my first half-dozen or so times through the New Testament and never had a problem with understanding things. Of course, that was years ago, and I haven't done any Bible reading in a long time.

Compared to some sporting goods stores, Walmart rifles are relatively inexpensive.

LOL!!!!!!! That is GREAT!!!! Job well done!!!

These still don't top yours, but I get nagged by the Greenpeace nazis a few times each month on my walk to school. They always pick me out of the lineup as I look like a typical ski/mtn bum (Beard, Parka,.....)

Once, right after their Fag-ship "Rainbow Warrior" hit a reef in a Nat'l park, I told them "Hey, I'd prefer to save coral reefs than ruin them like you guys"

Another time, I held up my car keys and said "My SUV keys, from my COLD DEAD HANDS"

Next time, I'll say "No thanks, not interested. But, I will go out tonight and buy a couple more boxes of ammo in case you guys try to torch my SUV sometime soon! Thanks for the reminder!!"

Well, you've got me beat there. I didn't even know they sold rifles in sporting goods stores.
