This is going to be less than pretty, but someone had to do it.
Yesterday's Steeler/Indy game was .............. well, you fill that in.
I'm a Steeler fan of 55 years or so, and the game yesterday was, to say the least, quite bizarre --- as the concept of "a football move" brought back visions of Elroy 'Crazy Legs' Hirsh. The LIVE THREAD yesterday including this incredible game was as lively as the game itself. This morning I gathered some of your comments on the Troy Polamalu interception.
Let's be honest............. he caught the damn ball and the refs blew the call. But FReepers' humor and insights were pretty darn funny as all this was happening. I'm a crappy typist, so this may be a quite ugly presentation. I am just going to present some of the posts from all of you who were transfixed by yesterday's game and the bizarre officiating. It all was unreal, and your comments were fabulous.
Yoi!

After further review, and a review of security provisions, we reverse the call.

CBS considers the money slipped to the refs to make that reversal the best investment it could make. 715 posted on 01/15/2006 3:56:15 PM EST by steveegg

I'm a Colts fan, and that INT call was horrible. Seemed like TV wanted an interesting finish.

Either way it was a pathetic non-call.
The Burgh has a lot of fans all over the country, if they make the distance the SB will have fine ratings.
And how the wonderful class of Big Ben not assigning any blame nor taking any credit for the fumble and tackle. Solid organization with solid players.
;-)
The NFL is one big casino, nothing more.
Wasn't there under two minutes to play left in the game? Why not just take a knee?

BTW, thank you beyond the sea, for trying to keep the live thread about football, and not a singles bar.
Thanks!!!!! He'd still be running!
If Polamalu stays on the ground and never makes any move of any kind until touched by a Colt, its not an interception?
I think you missed the point: In trying to get up and advance the ball, Troy did make a football move. He created his own fumble with his knee. Fumbles to not require being hit by the opponent.
I used to think Belichick was in his head, but it now seems that Peyton is in Peyton's head. Peyton had the happiest happy feet that I've ever seen.
So, the receiver could just stand there for, say, 15 seconds, not have the defense come and touch him or attempt to move, have no whistle, then put the ball on the ground, and it's an incomplete pass instead of a fumble?
I love the guy......... and so do the young ladies here in the 'Burgh.
Btw, did you read the one poster's comment on Troy's interception (very funny):
"He had one knee and a head of hair down .... Interception" mikrofon
That's priceless.
Funny you should mention that. Steeler's WR Plaxico Burress once made a catch and spiked the ball as he stood up(it was his rookie year, and he forgot that in the Pros you're not down until touched by an opposing player). It was ruled a fumble. This "football move" BS is just that: BS. (And something for woefully inept officials to hide behind.)
Well, I think the Mike Vanderjagt mystique is over and he will not be in Indianapolis a year from now.
Because there was still 1:20 on the clock and Indy had all their time outs. Taking a knee would have given Indy the ball back with about a minute left and still only a 1 score lead. Get the TD and you've got a two score lead.
The Manning mystique will never end. He's a good QB, plays near the center of the sports coverage world, and gives good interview. The press will worship him until he's in Canton.
Ouch. Even Vinatierri misses once in a while, but not by that much. Still, Manning had the chance to get the Colts 5-10 yards closer.
Poor game management. The Colts should have picked up the 1st down, instead, Manning went to the end zone then deep. By picking up the 1st down it would have made the field goal a little easier.
You may be right, but New England has nothing to complain about. The NFL has gone to such great lengths to scrutinize every single bit of contact between receivers and defensive backs in the last couple of years specifically because in big games the Patriots' defensive backs were known to "push the envelope" on the rules regarding downfield contact.
It's gotten so damn ridiculous that a cornerback with no arms could probably play in the NFL these days, since the position has become so heavily regulated.
