Producers Imitates Life- pitch your money losing (Brokeback Box Office)films here!
Self (plagiarised from Mel Brooks) ^ | 12/31/05 | self

Yesterday, I sat in a theater watching "The Producers" while "Brokeback Mountain" ran in the empty theater next door...and it hit me. Someone is making a bundle selling 100% of "Brokeback Mountain" a guaranteed flop, to several investors.

It explains so much.

Like, how our country could be at war and films like "Stealth" are produced.

And it got me thinking...if I were really out to alienate and offend 80% of the country, what would be my next film? I immediatly thought of casting James Brolin as Ronald Reagan...but that's been done.

How about "The Oliver North Story" starring Christopher Walken.(I don't think I need to add anything to this)

Or the Rob Reiner vehicle "Being Ben Franklin." Rob Reiner travels back in time to the Constitutional Convention ...

Or how about this one...the story too big for one actor, one ego...Jack Nicholson AND William Shatner ARE Bill Clinton!!

Please add your own...either the film that you KNOW was produced to loose money, or the film you could pitch to Hollywood as a guaranteed turkey designed to offend the masses...

terrorists are just plain old folks...

Exactly...and that's why the Manuel Noriega story must be told...my pick to play the lead...Tommy Chong! (I understand they tried to use psych ops to get him to surrender, but made the mistake of playing that song about "We're going to lay around the shanty Mama- and get a good buzz on..." )

would be revealed as a fraud.

My concern is that Hollywood always seems to get the last laugh. They put out the lie and it lingers in our culture long after the truth is no longer discussed...just look at Alger Hiss.

There was already a movie about Manuel Noriega and he was played by Bob Hoskins. But I see your point.

How about John Kerry starring in the remake of .."Pack up your Troubles."

And for the part of Oliver Hardy...a death match between Al Franken and Ted Kennedy--no wait. I'd pay to see that...

btw: Who in the world would do a movie based on a play based on a movie?

Especially when the original movie was funnier than the play?

a movie based on a play based on a movie?

Probably the same people who brought us "Victor/Victoria." I understand Rosie O'Donell is starring in the remake... or was that the remake of the "Honeymooners"?

Despite having the 1968 version memorized, I saw the new Producers today and enjoyed it, ESPECIALLY Gary Beach as Roger De Bris who stole every scene he was in. People are complaining it's a stage show simply filmed, or that it's impossible to match Wilder and Mostel - and both statements are somewhat true. To me it goes back to the classic movie musicals, where clearly the film on a soundstage, but which is still entertaining as anything. Definitely will buy the DVD, and likely will see it again in the theater.

Roger De Bris who stole every scene he was in..

I saw this with my fifteen year old who later explained it to his older brother...he loved how they tried to make WW2 more "Happy and Gay." I just about fell out of my chair at the Busby Berkley swastika bit...it was so over the top, and I could just hear the pitch for Brokeback Mountain in my head, "They're cowboys and they're in love...with each other!" (and Roger De Bris gets his Oscar nomination!)
