He's been a Freeper since 1998 but has nothing else on his bio page.
I realize I'm new here, but Snodog does not seem like a typical FReeper.

I am getting more and more into my yoga routine and it has been a life saver, but I was given a very nice weight machine from a friend who was gonna dispose of it and have been meaning to start in on it to get the sweat pumping for a pre yoga warmup. The mind-body-spirit thing......
My "weight room" got commandeered so its into the basement with it now. I should be active on it within 3 or 4 weeks. (THERE! I sent myself a goal!)

Once I got into my bowflex, I learned how much I really liked weight lifting/resistance. I loved how the muscles that I could see looked so much better.
Now, if I could just drop the slabs of flab. Caloric intake (or lack thereof) does not seem to make that much of an impact.

Calories are King. If you burn more than you take in, you lose weight. If you take in more, then you gain. This goes for trying to build up muscles as well, you need to pull in a certain amount of protein to build the muscle, but if you don't have enough calories to maintain it, your body will break it down for fuel.
Cutting calories isn't always the answer though. Too few calories and your body goes into "starvation mode" and slows your resting metabolic rate, makes you more tired more easily, ect... Better to eat right and just try and get more activity.
Also, it all takes time. Fad diets and one shot programs might get you to drop a few pounds for a bit, but it will come back once you get back to old habits. I love good food, ergo, I need to do more to keep up with a good workout routine. This was really starting to pay off big for me before we moved down here and I felt comfortable walking around with my shirt off even at 220 lbs.
At 260 lbs... that isn't nearly so appealing as it once was.
But, give me a year or so and I should be ready for the beaches again. I want this to be a permanent "habit".

No problem:
Walk 2 miles a day
Eat lots of fresh green leafy veggies
Eat 5-6 times a day
Drink copious amounts of beer.

plantar fasciitis is ever so much fun!
I get it every time I do the monthly billing... and walk like a gimp for several days thereafter.
don't *you* keep a dictionary, a Gray's Anatomy, and a KJV by your computer?

I know all about calories.
Last year, just for kicks, I tracked my caloric intake. I discovered that I was averaging about 600 calories a day and was not feeling hungry at all. Naturally, my weight wouldn't budge. So, I figured I should up my calories to about 1200 calories. This took serious effort as I had no real desire to eat. I stuck with it for 3 weeks. Guess what? No weight change.
I finally had some success losing weight when I tried the South Beach diet. I lost 10lbs in the first two weeks, as predicted by the books, but I was also swimming 10 miles a week.
My life is so busy and filled with stress that I'm beginning to despair of ever losing the weight.
I have to find a way of balancing a proper diet with enough exercise to shrink the fat cells. It's almost enough to tempt me to induce lactation!

I would trade my children before I would trade my bowflex!
I love my bowflex. They have since introduced a new model that has most of the same features in a smaller footprint. They are fiendishly expensive, though.

Dictionary lives in homeschooling room. I import it when I need it. (I've used it more since joining FR than I have in years, thanks in the main, to NnB!)
I don't own a Gray's.
The KJV, the 1928 BoCP, and the 1940 Hymnal are next to my bed.

I'm thinking about taking a gun course at the range that the hubby favors. I don't know what they offer, but I need a course for beginners.
The way lawmakers and the libs have been acting lately, it seems to me that they'd have a harder time taking a firearm from my cold dead hands, if I knew what the h3!! I was doing.
Any recommendations from the FR peanut gallery?
