Some Sun Tzu quotes that are applicable to the Miers Nomination

I think a lot of Conservatives are mad about the Miers nommination because they wanted a fight with Liberals in the Senate and Judiciary Committee. Bush didn't give them one (I think they would get one if they started backing this nomminee but that's beside the point right now), so they are picking a fight with Bush.

Call me a sell-out but I prefer a win. And that is what Miers is to conservatives. She's a gun-toting, anti-abortion evangelical Christian. She's everything the extreme Left wing has been having nightsweats about since Bush was first elected.

All this brings to mind somethings Sun Tzu said about winning battles.

Sun Tzu: "To subdue the enemy without fighting is the supreme excellence"

"No leader should put troops into the field merely to gratify his own spleen; no leader should fight a battle simply out of pique."

"To fight and conquer in all your battles is not supreme excellence; supreme excellence consists in breaking the enemy's resistance without fighting."

"The general who advances without coveting fame and retreats without fearing disgrace, whose only thought is to protect his country and do good service for his sovereign, is the jewel of the kingdom."

"Those skilled in war subdue the enemy's army without battle. They capture the enemy's cities without assaulting them and overthrow his state without protracted operations."

"The victorious strategist only seeks battle after the victory has been won, whereas he who is destined to defeat first fights and afterwards looks for victory."

"In making tactical dispositions, the highest pitch you can attain is to conceal them."

(and the President's adamant detractors for this and the last nomination should consider this one) "When there is discord within the country the army can not be mobilized. When there is discord in the army it can not take the field. When there is lack of harmony in the field the army can not take the offensive. When there is lack of harmony in battle the army can not win a decisive victory."

Conan: Crucified and the only person or thing he loved assassinated

Well that was the movie Conan. The hero of Robert E. Howard's creation actually went on to become a king by his own hand and there was never a Valeria.

Absolutely. Conservatives need to start fighting smart rather than just venting their spleens.
