I've been thinking about this: Has anyone considered that, maybe, Governor Blanco DELIBERATELY delayed acting because she knew she would create a human trajedy she could then blame on the President? The Mayor may be in on it too, but I can't believe that the governor of a state, faced with images of desperate people in New Orleans on TV, wouldn't have picked up the phone and BEGGED the President to move the ENTIRE military to her state/cities.
I mean, think about it: These people had been trying to "get" President Bush for years! The Jersey Girls (9-11 widows) didn't work, their sabotage of the Iraq war wasn't working, Cindy Sheehan didn't work. So maybe they figures "let's create a human disaster and trajedy on purpose, and blame Bush for it".
They knew their friends in the liberal mainstream media would only be too happy to give them "cover" and blame Bush ENTIRELY for the whole thing. So who cares if a few "black people" go without food and water for a few days?
The potential "upside" (from their point of view) would be HUGE! They could FINALLY "get" George Bush! They could call for INVESTIGATIONS! They could call for IMPEACHMENT! They could accuse Bush of "hating black people".
It's no secret that the GOP had been making outreach efforts to black people, and they were actually making progress. So (from their perspective) why not "kill two birds with one stone"? Why not make it IMPOSSIBLE for the GOP to make inroads with black people, and why not try and mortally wound President Bush.
They figured the "worst" that could happen is that their Governor and Mayor would be called "incompetent". But George Bush would be pilloried with charges of being "insensitive", a "murderer", etc.
Really. Just find a quiet place and THINK ABOUT IT for a minute or 2.
The people had been in the Superdome since SATURDAY NIGHT, and Blanco didn't even declare a state of Emergency until Wednesday! She fought efforts to have the feds come in until THURSDAY when she finally requested formal FEMA aid.
On early FRIDAY morning, federal troops STORMED into the city, and by late Friday were well on their way to turning the situation around. By Saturday afternoon, they had pretty much evacuated everyone from the convention center and had begun rescue/recovery efforts in the rest of the city.
Really. THINK ABOUT IT. Why would Governor Blanco WAIT so long? Maybe she saw all the misery that was being portrayed on TV and figured "we can blame this on Bush and ruin him!" So she waited and refused to let the feds come in. The mainstream media were ALREADY blaming Bush on Tuesday night (the levees broke on Tuesday at noon), when on Tuesday morning they were saying New Orleans had "dodged a bullet". I'm thinking someone in the media was tipped off that they were going to try and "get bush" and they were only too happy to help.
If you really sit down and THINK about it, I think you will come up with the same conclusion I am leaning towards:
President Bush was "set up" by Governor Blanco (and possibly Mayor Nagin), who used the poor people of New Orleans as pawns in a cynical, deadly game of POLITICAL-DEATH-ROULETTE.
Seriously. Think about it. Just find a quiet place and think about it.
but what in the end does the left win by politicizing this event... the msm is already getting blasted in by critics and industry experts for even remotly suggesting at this point is Bushs or the admins fault... I think the American Public is starting to tire of all the politicizing and just wants the straight info... I think if the left is really trying to politicize this like they did Cindy Sheehan (I.e. create a story under the real event)
They are going to slit there own throats... I think it will backfire on them. But then again might as well let them run that version of the democrats into the ground.... make it all that much easier to fight the next incarnation.

I don't think it's that complicated. I think that Blanco and Nagin probably stole most of the money that was supposed to go into disaster planning, and got caught with their pants down. They were too busy covering their respective tracks to help in the aftermath. Of the two of them, I'd say Nagin is probably more incompetent than corrupt, and Blanco more corrupt than incompetent.
Blanco wanted to become a folk hero like Rudolph Giuliani - so she obstructed federal operations in a politically ambitious plan to control the levers of power locally.
Unfortunately for the people of Louisiana, Gov. Blanco is no Rudy Giuliani. Hundreds or thousands died for her delusions of glory.
I think she is genuinely horrified at what has happened, and no doubt desperately hiding the guilt she feels by diverting the blame.
You cannot trust people like that ~ not ever!
Look, I know the theory is "out there". I full admit that. And, to be honest, I'm not fully convinced myself. But the MORE I THINK ABOUT IT, the more I'm convinced that these people ARE CAPABLE OF doing something like it.
Look, this is a party that has a Senator who:
1. Compared out soliders at Guantanamo to "Nazis".
2. Whose "hero" activists see the terrorists as "freedom fighters" and our soldiers as "oppressors" (Michael Moore and the moveon.org people).
3. Whose Senator (Ted Kennedy) accused George Bush of "creating the war on terror in Crawford Texas".
Whose entire party and media apparatus (i.e. the mainstream media) are OBSESSED with sabotaging the war in Iraq just so they can say they were "right".
Now, you tell me people who are capable of saying things like that aren't capable of keeping black people at the Superdome without food and water for a few days so they could create a media frenzy and blame President Bush.
Why is it that the Mayor provided NO food and water at the Superdome? Why is it that there were few -- if any -- police at the Superdome? Even after the "desertions", they had over 1100! Even just 100 police at the superdome could have avoided all of the violence.
Why is it that Governor Blanco never "deputized" the National Guard and gave them law enforcement authority in order to back up the NO police? Isn't it INTERESTING that people in the VICINITY of Sheppard Smith of FoxNews were DELIBERATELY ignored even though Sheppard was PLEADING with someone (remember, Blanco hadn't asked for help from the Feds yet) to drop some food and water to these people.
Folks, this is not "incompetence". This is evidence of a DELIBERATE REFUSAL to address the problem. Why? Who would benefit? Who would be "hurt" by these people getting no food and water, even though the entire country could see them on TV? The answer is pretty obvious: The one who would get hurt would be President Bush since the left had ALREADY started blaming him as of Tuesday night.
Maybe it was because she WANTED to escalate the level of violence and mayhem.
And just WHO was setting all of those fires? Several fire department officials with the NO Fire Department were claiming today that many of the fires were being set by "arsonists". I mean, what incentive would a person have for setting a fire in an abandoned city, unless their intent was to create the image of a "burning city", an image they could then blame President Bush for?
C'mon people. Do you REALLY think these people are incaapble of doing this? Don't be naive! These people on the left are the most VILE, VICIOUS, HATE-FILLED people this country has ever seen. These people make the Bolsheviks in the old Soviet Union look like choirboys.
Just think about it. I know you want to give them the "benefit of the doubt", but do you think they would give you the same courtesy? How long did it take them to start to "blsme" President Bush?

You posed an interesting question. As the governor of LA, Blanco should have known better than to obstruct the evacuation/relief efforts. That can't be covered up. But obstruct she did, big time. Why?
Well, where are those millions of funds requested over the years to make sure the levees were secure, people were bought out of homes in dangerous areas, advanced emergency communications between LE in the state? Hmmm?
Who comes to bail her out? Clinton's pal, James Witt. Blanco meanwhile is twisting in the wind. She can't say anything coherent, except to screw things up even further.
Then here comes one of America's most compassionate politicians, Hillary. Anyone catch if she paid a visit to certain people? She looked like she just got out of the hospital, instead of a lovely Hawaiian vacation.
Who shreds files? Who misplaces files? Who sends their goons to clean out the office of Vince Foster? If there is a buck to skim, Hill and Bill are there, and they're good at covering their butts.

Ok, you guys are giving Blanco every "benefit of the doubt". Congratulations. But you haven't answered my questions yet:
1. Why no police at the Superdome?
2. Why no food/water at the Superdome?
3. Why no authority to National Guard to assist police in peacekeeping?
4. Why wait until Wed to declare an "emergency" when the levees broke on Tuesday AT NOON, and the city was 80% underwater by Tuesday evenihg?
5. Why wait until Thursday to formally ask FEMA to come in?
Can ALL OF this be "incopetence"? C'mon. Really. Really?

I don't believe Governor Blanco "refused to act".
I believe she was totally incompetent, way out of her league and paralyzed like a deer in the headlights.
To use a General Honore expression, she was "Stuck on Stupid."
Nonetheless, in spite of her incompetence and paralysis, she refused to yield power to the Federal takeover of the evacuation as requested by President Bush.
Why?
Democrat politics is so neck-deep in the "Blame Game", that they assume everybody else is as sick as they are.

Unfortunately, it was just plain fear of being wrong, coupled with the fear of being exposed as having no plan.
Think about it. They had no plan to evacuate the city. It was every man for himself. If the hurricane hadn't struck, they would have been exposed as complete morons.
Since there is a tragedy now, they can count on the press to blame Bush.
