Well you don't have to convince me that that left is the most vile of creatures out there... their words and actions quite adequately convey that.

I think it was incompetence and negligence on the mayor and governors parts....

I don't think it rose the the level of a criminal act.... but then again that will be up to a court or congress to decide... this will be review by the feds and other groups and I think that evidence will point were the blame belongs in Louisianan.

I suspect it was:

1. Incompetence

2. Panic

3. She is a member of the Bush hating wing of the Dims and could not stand to agree to anything he wanted. She likely buys into all the far left view of Bush as the dumbest successful tyrant of all times.

I concur with others that don't think has a grand plan. She is too dumb which is what make me think point 3 is a part of it.

Blanco would had to have been deaf, dumb and blind to underestimate the strength of the storm. We were told it was a Cat 5 for 2 days and that it was going to hit NO. Maybe I have stumbled on the answer to the riddle, she is deaf dumb and blind.

I wondered if it was a military thing- she was trying to make a statement by not turning over the LA Natl. Guard to Bush, to win points with the anti-war crowd. Then it backfired on her and she couldn't get out of it.

This undoubtedly criminal dereliction of duty by Nagin and Blanco. No question.

I think it's simply (a) misunderestimating the path and potential damage of the storm, i.e. they rolled the dice and lost, and (b) they were caught unprepared due to (a).

I don't envy the job of community leaders that have to make tough decisions. Spend millions/billions and evacuate everyone and get criticized for being overcautious, or give fair warning and let those that want to leave do so? The latter option looks best, but there's still no excuse for not accommodating the hospitals, old folks homes, the infirm, not pre-positioning post-storm supplies and equipment, etc.

Blanco and Nagin took a calculated risk, but they didn't take prudent precautions for the worst, then compounded the situation by first freezing as if struck with stage fright, then panicking and pointing fingers afterward while their constituents suffered. What a shame that a great state like Louisiana has pricks for "leaders".

The exact thought has gone through my mind too. My conscience won't let me think anyone could be that deliberately evil. I really think that Blanco & Nagin miscalculated & didn't think the storm would hit them that bad & they never figured on the levee breaking.

HOWEVER, I think once the sh** started hitting the fan, the Governor went into CYA mode & started contacting people high up in the Dimocrat party to get their advice. I think she is getting advice from the Clintons & their people.

I don't doubt that a party that sanctions the killing of 40 million innocent babies would take advantage of an opportunity to "get Bush".

The only logical conclusions are that they are both so stupid as to be unable to tie their shoes - or they are using this disaster for every bit of political hay they can make. They know they will give mucho funds from the Feds to rebuild the city they neglected - money they can skim off of too.

They know by promising the poor people help & not giving it to them, it would be easy to whip up their anger towards Bush & the lamestream media would be only too happy to put these angry people on TV so all of America could see it.

My conscious tells me no - but my subconscious is nagging at me a bit - too many things wrong with the way it went down.

Look, I fully admit the theory is "out there", but before you become so dismissive, please TURN ON your brain and answer the following questions:

1. Why no police at the Superdome?
2. Why no food/water at the Superdome?
3. Why no authority to National Guard to assist police in peacekeeping?
4. Why wait until Wed to declare an "emergency" when the levees broke on Tuesday AT NOON, and the city was 80% underwater by Tuesday evenihg?
5. Why wait until Thursday to formally ask FEMA to come in?

Can ALL OF this be "incompetence"? C'mon. Really. Really?

Do you really think a political movement that sees terrorists as "freedom fighters" is incapable of doing this? Please. Don't be so naive. Now, the more you actually THINK about this you REALLY have to wonder.

It's not like New Orleans has never been hit by a hurricane before.

What were they thinking -- that they'd be lucky every time?

But for many of these people trapped for generations in those ghettos, it may be the best thing that ever happened to them. They get a fresh start in life. Texas, even.

I'm sure a lot of those well-meaning liberals are going to be upset that these "indigenous" peoples won't be able to carry on their lives in the wonderful traditions they've maintained for centuries.

Has anyone considered that, maybe, Governor Blanco DELIBERATELY delayed acting because she knew she would create a human trajedy she could then blame on the President? The Mayor may be in on it too, but I can't believe that the governor of a state...

There is no doubt that Democrats are addicted to the low road, but the idea that they (the governor and the mayor) would murder thousands of innocent people for the national Democratic Party...

Really, you should seek professional help! Much can be done nowadays for good old fashion stupidity.

Murder is alive and well, but even idiots don't murder thousands (even possibly tens of thousands) just to help the Democratic Party.

It is surreal that one even feels compelled to respond to this post. Pinch me please...wake me up!

You need to turn down the hyperbole. We're just considering an -- admittedly "out there" -- theory, that's all. No need for you to get all DEFENSIVE. Now, I'm going to ask YOU to answer the following questions as well. You can get defensive and "outraged" after we get your answers.

Can ALL OF this be "incopetence"? C'mon. Really. Really?

And my prior statements stand: Would you (and did you) feel it was "surreal" when Michael Moore compared the terrorists to "freedom fighters"? Did you feel "outraged" when Ted Kennedy accused Bush of "creating a war on terror in Texas"?

The original post contained NOTHING about "murdering thousands of people". You need to R-E-A-D more carefully. The oriignal -- admittedly "out there" theory -- simply stated "what if they believed they could create a human trajedy she could then blame on the President." This said nothing about "murder". That is YOUR hyperbole and desire to defend an incompetent Governor.

My original theory was simply to think (out loud) that "governor Blanco believed that keeping food and water from obviously desperate people would create a PR DISASTER for the Bush administration since the MSM would be sure to blame him, and him ALONE for it." IF the theory is true, she probably thought "we'll just deny them some food and water for a couple of days and let the horrible images keep getting played on TV". Then, when all the looting and misery has reached a boiling point, we'll finally ask the feds in." Which she did on THURSDAY night, fully 4 DAYS after the hurricane went through the city.

Now YOU ANSWER THOSE QUESTIONS. And they you can be "outraged" and feel "surreal" aftertarwards, OK?

The reason I think Blanco waited so long was that she thought NO would be spared by the hurricane like it had for centuries. Stupidity.

It's quite easy why she didn't want the National Guard: she didn't want to risk her political career. National Guard troops would probably shoot black looters, and the black community eould have blamed her for that; thus, she would lose their support in 2007 which is her re-election.

I can't believe I just wasted my time on your response. Defensive on behalf of the Democratic party?

Do I have to ask the Admin Mod to pull this idiotic post for the sake of good taste (I think they would be embarrassed by such a request). Your thinking is...an insult to thinking. I have cats who have better ideas.

Please, try again.

Get a grip!

Ok there Mr. Defensive "I'm going to censor you." Now it's YOUR turn to TURN ON YOUR brain and answer the following questions:

1. Why no police at the Superdome?

3. Why no authority to National Guard to assist police in peacekeeping?
4. Why wait until Wed to declare an "emergency" when the levees broke on Tuesday AT NOON, and the city was 80% underwater by Tuesday evenihg?

Got any answers there censor-boy?

As I discussed in Post 38, all of those questions can be answered by gross incompetence and a sick political culture. (See the quote from one of her aides reported by the Washington Post and linked in my Post 38).

However, two of the questions deserve further explanation:

1. Why no police at the Superdome?
2. Why no food/water at the Superdome?

The answer to that question illustrates the monumental degree of incompetence.

Why wasn't the Superdome supplied with food/water supplies earmaked for it?

Why weren't Police deployed to the Superdome in accordance to a pre-disaster plan?

Why?

Because the potential for catastrophic loss of life was so great for anybody staying in New Orleans during a Category 3 or greater Hurricane Storm Surge that New Orleans hurricane planning required COMPLETE evacuation of the city.

What Is "Storm Surge" and Why It Matters.

The answer to those two questions is that such actions require some degree of pre-planning and the Superdome was never pre-planned as a shelter because nobody was supposed to be left behind in the New Orleans flood basin death trap.

The Southern Louisiana Evacuation Plan specifically stated that people without cars would be evacuated by school buses and municipal buses. Instead, they were abandoned to their fate.

There is an old joke about the German airline Lufthansa:

A Lufthansa jet makes an emergency water landing and stays afloat.

The Captain says over the intercom: "All first class passengers, use the exits that lead to the wing to your right. All coach class passengers, use the exits that lead to the wing to your left."

The Captain says over a bullhorn: "All first class passengers, please board the inflatable lifeboats being manned by stewardesses. You will reach land in about three hours.

The Captain says over a bullhorn: "All coach class passengers, thank you for flying Lufthansa."

That is exactly how the Mayor of New Orleans and the Governor of Louisiana treated 200,000 low-income citizens of New Orleans. They were left stranded on the left wing.
